Visual lookup in photos automatically provides you with information about landmarks, as well as different types of plants, animals, and everyday objects in the photo. This is useful for family and friends to reminisce about visiting famous landmarks, or simply to learn more about the species of plants and animals that came into the picture with you.

This feature uses on-device machine learning to scan your photos and find and identify objects of interest. Unfortunately, the visual lookup feature in photos only works in the United States.

How to Use Visual Find

  1. Open Photos on iPhone or iPad.
  2. Select a photo and open it to full screen.
  3. If the photo is compatible with Visual Look Up, you'll see a glowing information icon that looks like an i inside a circle. Click on the icon.
  4. There should be a special find option related to the category of items in the image. Click on it to access Visual Look Up.

For best results, find a version of the image where more of the desired objects are in focus and in the frame, as it helps the device's machine learning algorithm discover them.
