There happened to be a doctor on the plane. He learned that the female passenger had a heart disease, so the doctor borrowed an Apple Watch from the crew and measured that the patient's blood oxygen saturation was very low.

The crew then used an oxygen cylinder to stabilize the passenger's condition and successfully sent him to the hospital at the Italian airport an hour later.

The doctor said: During this flight, he learned the emergency functions of similar gadgets, which can save a person's life in times of crisis.

However, due to previous infringement of Masimo’s pulse oximeter patent, Apple Watch 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 series watches will no longer have blood oxygen detection functions.

This restriction is limited to the US market. Those sold outside the US market still support blood oxygen detection.
