Microsoft cancels automatic hiding of Quick Access Toolbar, command placement changes

After requests and negative feedback from Insiders, Microsoft has decided to reverse the changes it made in Microsoft 365 Apps. The changes involve hiding the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) by default and moving the undo and redo commands to the Home tab.

The changes come as the software company attempts to explore giving Microsoft 365 apps a visual refresh, with some fluid designs applied. The company claims the changes caused user outages based on surveys and in-app feedback it collected. With this, Redmond Co. brings things back to its previous setting.

"Through surveys and in-app feedback, you let us know that this change was disruptive and slowed down your workflow," Hannah Kieffer, product manager on the Office Suite Experience team, wrote in a blog post. "We hear you! With this update, QAT now displays by default, including undo, redo, and save commands, and autosave finds its correct location on the title bar."

Word functionality has been restored in Windows 11 Zone above or below the QAT and its command button decision. Note, however, that this is only part of Microsoft's new Visual Refresh preview (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote for Windows) and can only be accessed by Insiders running version 2305 (Build 16403.20000) or later.

On the other hand, while this move proves that Microsoft listens to its M365 Insiders, the Xbox community is still frustrated with the company's tone-deaf behavior on different issues within the Xbox dashboard.
