Google launches new features for Meet
One of the new features we can all look forward to is the availability of reactions in meetings. This will allow meeting participants to react using emojis such as thumbs up and hearts, bringing more energy and interaction to the discussion without having to disrupt the speaker by unmuting or using keystrokes.

Even if the world aims to return to normal, it can be assumed that after experiencing the power and flexibility of online video conferencing, this will still be the choice for many companies. Therefore, Google has been working hard to improve the online meeting experience. In fact, it recently announced exciting new features for Google Meet designed to make meetings more interactive and secure.

One of the new features we can all look forward to is the availability of reactions in meetings. This will allow meeting participants to react using emojis such as thumbs up and hearts, bringing more energy and interaction to the discussion without having to disrupt the speaker by unmuting or using keystrokes. It matches a similar feature of Zoom, which is great for getting reactions from participants. These Google Meet reactions will be viewable in the participant's video tile. If their video tile is not visible, the emoji or reaction will overflow on the side of the screen along with their name.

Using Meet to significantly enhance live broadcast capabilities is also worth looking forward to. Currently, users can host meetings with 500 active participants and reach up to 100,000 viewers through live streaming in a trusted Workspace domain. Later this year, Meet users can look forward to Meet streaming to YouTube. This will apply to Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus and Teaching & Learning Upgrade Workspace customers. This integration with YouTube enables users to authenticate using their Google account. Not only that, live stream participants will soon be able to participate in Q&A and polls, matching the interactive experience of active Meet participants.

Another feature worth looking forward to is the ability to bring Meet directly into Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Users involved in work collaboration must use another tab to work on files together while chatting in Meet. no longer. In the coming weeks, Google will allow users to start a meeting and bring it directly into Docs, Sheets, or Slides. This allows groups to collaborate while discussing – all in one tab.

Google has also introduced a picture-in-picture mode, which comes in handy when we need to multitask – which is really common. This will allow users to see up to four video tiles in a Google Meet floating window running on Chrome while browsing other tabs or windows.

Additionally, Google will launch optional client-side encryption in Google Meet to protect users’ sensitive and private communications. This will apply to Business Plus, Enterprise Plus and Education Plus customers. Later this year, Google will also introduce optional end-to-end encryption for all meetings.

Finally, it’s worth noting how the recently launched companion mode enhances the meeting experience for indoor participants. It gives them the opportunity to add their own video tiles so other Meet participants can see their expressions. The rollout of automatic noise cancellation across all Google Meet hardware is also designed to further enhance the overall Meet experience.
