This article will introduce a cross-browser library class Zero Clipboard. It uses Flash for copying, so it can run as long as the browser has Flash installed, and is more flexible than IE's document.execCommand("Copy").

The implementation principle of Zero Clipboard

Zero Clipboard uses Flash for copying. There was previously a Clipboard Copy solution, which used a hidden Flash. But the latest Flash Player 10 only allows operations on Flash to activate the clipboard. So Zero Clipboard improved this and used a transparent Flash to float above the button. In this way, what is actually clicked is not the button but the Flash, and the copy function of Flash can be used.

How to use Zero Clipboard

First download Zero Clipboard and unzip it. Two files are required: ZeroClipboard.js and ZeroClipboard.swf. Put these two files into your project.

Core Functions
Step One , import the ZeroClipboard.js file:

Then set the path of the ZeroClipboard.swf file:

ZeroClipboard.setMoviePath( "ZeroClipboard.swf" );
Note: The paths of the above two files, ZeroClipboard.js and ZeroClipboard.swf, need to be replaced with the paths of the corresponding files in your project. Or it can be an absolute path.
Then use:

Copy the code The code is as follows:

var clip = new ZeroClipboard.Client(); // Create a new object
clip.setHandCursor( true ); // Set the mouse to a hand shape
clip.setText("haha"); // Set the text to be copied.
// Register a button, the parameter is id. Clicking this button will copy it.
// This button does not necessarily need to be an input button, it can also be other DOM elements.
clip.glue("copy-botton"); // The position cannot be interchanged with the previous sentence

In this way, the basic function is realized, and the set text can be copied by clicking the button. You may have noticed that the text to be copied is fixed. What if you want to change it dynamically, such as copying the content in an input box. Don’t worry, we’ll cover that below.

Other functions
Zero Clipboard also provides some other functions, some of which are very useful.

reposition() method
Because there is a Flash button floating on the button, when the page size changes, the Flash button may be misplaced and cannot be clicked. It doesn't matter, Zero Clipboard provides a reposition() method that can recalculate the position of the Flash button. We can bind it to the resize event.
Copy code The code is as follows:

bind(window, "resize", function(){
clip.reposition();
});

bind is a cross-browser event binding function. For details, please see 4 essential cross-browser functions .
hide() and show() methods
These two methods can hide and show Flash buttons. The show() method calls the reposition() method.

setCSSEffects() method
When the mouse moves over or clicks on the button, pseudo-classes such as css “:hover”, “:active” and other pseudo-classes may become invalid due to the obstruction of the Flash button. The setCSSEffects() method solves this problem. First we need to change the pseudo-class to a class, for example:

#copy-botton:hover{
border-color:#FF6633;
}
/* can be changed to the following " :hover" to ".hover" */
#copy-botton.hover{
border-color:#FF6633;
}
We can call clip.setCSSEffects( true ); so Zero Clipboard will automatically handle it for us: treat class.hover as pseudo-class:hover.

getHTML() method
If you want to instantiate Flash yourself without using the Zero Clipboard attachment method, then this method can help. It accepts two parameters, the width and height of the Flash. What is returned is the HTML code corresponding to Flash. For example:

var html = clip.getHTML( 150, 20 );
You can use innerHTML or document.write(); directly for output.
The following is the HTML code output under my test:

Copy the code The code is as follows:

There is a bug in IE's Flash JavaScript communication interface. You must insert an object tag into an existing DOM element. And before writing innerHTML, make sure that the element has been inserted into the DOM using the appendChild method.
Zero Clipboard event handling
Zero Clipboard provides some events, and you can customize functions to handle these events. The Zero Clipboard event handling function is addEventListener(); for example, when Flash is fully loaded, an event "load" will be triggered.
Copy code The code is as follows:

clip.addEventListener( "load", function(client) {
alert("Flash loaded!");
});

Zero Clipboard will pass in the clip object as a parameter. That is "client" in the above example.
Also "load" can also be written as "onLoad", and other events can also be written like this.
Other events include:

mouseOver mouse move up event
mouseOut mouse move out event
mouseDown mouse down event
mouseUp mouse release event
complete copy success event
The mouseOver event and the complete event are more commonly used.
As mentioned before, if you need to dynamically change the content to be copied, the mouseOver event can come in handy. For example, if we need to dynamically copy the value in an input box with the id of test, we can reset the value when the mouse is over.
Copy code The code is as follows:

clip.addEventListener( "mouseOver", function(client) {
var test = document.getElementById("test");
client.setText( test.value ); // Reset the value to be copied
});

Copy successfully:
Copy code The code is as follows:

clip.addEventListener( "complete", function(){
alert("Copy successfully!");
});

Okay, let’s stop here. Try it out yourself now.
