Designing Your Island Paradise Using Building Materials

While not mandatory, upgrading your island with buildings and furniture enhances your Aloft experience. The Construction menu offers a wide array of structures, furniture, and decorations, allowing for extensive customization. This menu also includes machinery, sailing equipment, and essential items like cooking tools and beds. This guide, however, focuses on building materials and decorative furniture.

After accessing your sketchbook, keep it handy! Use it to copy furniture designs from the various structures you encounter during your sky explorations (ruined villages, temples, ships, etc.). Simply interact with your sketchbook while aiming at the desired design to copy it for later construction on your home island.

Note that variations in shape (like different LMP styles) are considered separate designs, so always check for new additions. Resource requirements are usually consistent, but the appearance adapts to your chosen design.

Another method to unlock new designs involves discovering knowledge stones scattered throughout the sky. These gray stones with blue streaks and red ribbons (easily spotted in flight) reveal new furniture or building recipes upon completion, indicated by the message, "Fragments of text and carvings ignite inspiration for a new design."

Building on Your Island and Beyond

You can build any unlocked recipe on any healthy island; unhealthy ecosystems must be restored first. Most building will occur on your home island, allowing for the construction of ships, homes, and decorative elements. Resources are drawn directly from your island's storage.

However, some knowledge stones are located on inaccessible ledges, requiring construction (and subsequent demolition) of temporary structures like staircases to reach them.

Aloft offers three item placement modes:

• Automatic: 90-degree horizontal rotation, with snapping for alignment. Ideal for larger structures.
• Manual: Horizontal and four-point vertical axis control for precise placement. Useful when automatic snapping is insufficient.
• Disabled: Full 360-degree horizontal rotation and free placement.

Combining these modes maximizes building versatility and customization.

To demolish structures (on your island or elsewhere), use your hammer's right-click function.

Furniture and Building Recipes

The following tables detail building and decoration recipes. Structural recipes are found in the Building tab of the Construction menu, while decorations are in the Decoration tab. Items marked with an asterisk (*) have multiple shapes/sizes, using the same resources but counting as separate designs in the sketchbook.
