Google Play Games 作为测试版登陆 Windows PC

Last month, Google unexpectedly announced that its Google Play The gaming service will launch on Windows PCs in 2022. The news came as a surprise to many because of the competition between the two platforms, the fact that Google has historically been somewhat hostile when it comes to running software on Microsoft platforms, and because of the nature of the announcement itself.

The last part involves Google not partnering with Microsoft, BlueStacks, or any other company to make this happen, but instead developing it as a homegrown project. Although thanks to its partnership with Amazon, Microsoft built Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) to bring Android apps and games to Windows 11.

Today, Google released beta versions of Android Games for Windows PC in select countries; namely Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea. Users in these regions can register on the dedicated website here to get a chance to play Android games on their Windows machines. Hardware and software requirements are as follows:

  • Windows 10 (v2004)
  • Solid State Drive (SSD)
  • Game-grade GPU
  • CPU 8 logic Core
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 20 GB Available Storage
  • Windows Administrator Account
  • Hardware Virtualization Must Be Enabled
  • Compatible PC Devices and Configurations

It’s important to note that Microsoft’s WSA does not offer Google Play Services by default, giving Google the upper hand with its latest offering. You can sync your progress and earn points across Google Play-compatible devices for a seamless experience. It also supports Windows 10, which WSA does not. Although there are some workarounds for installing Google Play Services on WSA in Windows 11, they are not officially supported.

Google said it will work directly with developers to ensure their games are fully optimized and support relevant input peripherals on PC. It also has a developer website here to provide guidance to those interested.

Those who register will be placed on a waitlist and invitations will be sent out on a rolling basis. Google has launched the program in three countries now, but will expand the program to other countries this year and beyond. Given that the service officially supports Google Play and Windows 10, it's arguably the best competitor to Microsoft's WSA on Windows 11.
