With the release of watchOS 9.2, Apple is introducing the promised track detection feature to supported Apple Watch models. A software update means your watch can now tell when you're on track and ask you if you want to select a lane.

Track Detection uses a combination of Apple Maps data and your watch’s GPS to automatically identify when you’re on a standard 400-meter World Athletics (IAAF) track. At the time of writing, the feature is available in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, the UK, and the US.

To use this feature, just follow the steps below. Keep in mind that track detection is not supported on Apple Watch Series 3 and older models because these devices cannot run watchOS 9.2. To check that your Apple Watch has the latest software, open the Watch app on your iPhone and go to General -> Software Update. To install new software, your Apple Watch needs to have at least 50% battery, it needs to be on the charger, and it needs to be within range of your ‌‌‌‌‌‌iPhone‌‌‌‌‌‌. How to Start a Track Workout
