Microsoft isn’t done adding new features to Surface Laptop Studio with various firmware updates. The company is now gearing up to add dynamic refresh rate support following a recent update with speech clarity support.

According to a report from Windows Central, dynamic refresh rate support for Surface Laptop Studio is now available as part of an update for Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels. It consists of new firmware and new GPU driver:

  • Surface - Firmware - 10.0.156.0.
  • Intel Corporation - Displays - 30.0.101.1340

After installing the available update, Surface Laptop Studio owners can navigate to the advanced display settings and select Dynamic Refresh Rate.

#Dynamic Refresh Rate is a feature that helps your Surface Laptop Studio save battery and avoid wasting energy by always using 120Hz. The operating system can detect scenes that don't require 120Hz (for example, when viewing static images or when idle) and reduce the refresh rate to 60Hz, thus extending battery life. Unfortunately, it can't go below 60Hz, but the effect should still be noticeable.

Windows Central says dynamic refresh rate on Surface Laptop Studio works as expected. Still, some animations appear to be less fluid than they should be, which may be why Microsoft pushed the update to Windows Insiders first. The company will likely want to iron out bugs with the help of Windows Insiders before releasing Dynamic Refresh Rate to the public.
