Laravel News reports that many community members, including JetBrains
, have just announced the official establishment of the PHP Foundation. As a non-profit organization, this Open Collective initiative aims to continue advancing the future development of the language. By funding full-time and part-time developers who contribute to the PHP language, the PHP Foundation hopes to ensure the long-term prosperity of the language.

In addition to JetBrains
, PHP Foundation
also has a membership list Including Automattic
, Laravel
, Acquia
, Zend
, CraftCMS
, Private Packagist
, Tideways
and PrestaShop
.
It is reported that one of the reasons behind this decision is that Nikita Popov
, one of the main contributors, decided to shift his energy from PHP to LLVM.
As early as 2011, he devoted himself to PHP research, and during the nearly three years of working for JetBrains, he made important contributions to the three major versions of PHP 7.4 / 8.0 / 8.1.
Funds raised by the PHP Foundation will be used to provide funding and services to contributors participating in the PHP project to promote the further development of the language.
