I have nearly a year of programming experience in Codeigniter. I want to learn ThinkPHP and found that a 5.0 version has appeared
But 5.0 is said to be born for API everywhere, and I am mainly engaged in web development
From an employment perspective, should I study 3.2 or 5.0?

I hope you guys can give me some advice

If you are obsessed with TP, it is recommended to start with 3.2.

3.2 is used more often and there is more information online. It can also be used as an API.

As for 5, I think that for 3.2, an "API" gimmick was proposed, but the basic framework will not change significantly. I have no discomfort from 3.2 to 5.0. There is no stable version of 5.0 now, and the production environment should be very small. .

Comprehensive recommendation 3.2.

In fact, if you broaden your horizons, there are also YII2, laravel, and yaf. . . A lot of frameworks are no better than sticking to TP.

In terms of learning value, YII2 and laravel should be higher. Very eye-catching about new features and new design patterns.
TP is not object-oriented enough and feels a bit like functional programming.

As for documentation, if you have CI experience, you should be able to read the code. The documentation for YII2 and laravel is placed in the code and can be read together. You need some English proficiency.
TP is pretty good in terms of Chinese documentation, and Chinese people can get started quickly.

You should learn more about it before making the final decision.
enjoy~

If you have CI experience, don’t learn thinkphp. It’s just a framework of the same level. Instead, learn a full-stack framework to make enterprise-level applications. Symfony, laravel, phalcon, any one of yii will do. Improve a few levels after learning.

I suggest you learn laravel.

It is recommended that you use yaf

5.0, the API is very convenient to use later

Since the poster said it is from the perspective of employment, let’s talk about our practical application projects.

The latest version of the TP framework currently used by the company in the production environment is 3.2.2, but most of them still retain the versions before 3.2. (The cost of changing the framework is too high. From the perspective of stability, as long as there are no major problems with this version, it will not be updated)

The official said that "the official version of 5.0 is planned to be released in the first half of this year." I tried to use 5.0 as the framework of a new project, but in actual use, I found that there are still many problems, such as:

  1. Some subtle structures have not yet been finalized (an issue was raised to the official on Github, but the official did not explain why such code logic appeared, so this judgment is made);

  2. 5.0 still has a lot of small bugs, and some small bugs have been fixed by the official during the use process;

  3. Without the use of previous versions of TP as a basis, it is difficult to adapt to the situation of 5.0 and there are not many documents or articles introducing related issues.

  4. From the official Github graphs, we can see that the current code submissions are very frequent, and 5.0 is in rapid iteration, so it is not worth learning in depth at this time.

So overall 5.0 is not stable, and the possibility that the company will use it in production environment projects is very low. Based on the employment cost-effectiveness, it is recommended to choose 3.2.

3.2, 5.0 is still an unstable beta version, you can still use it if you want to

From a learning perspective, 3.2 is relatively stable, has a lot of information, and has rich community discussions, so it is more suitable. But since you already have experience with codeigniter, why learn thinkphp. As everyone recommends, learning Laravel is very helpful for design patterns, coding styles, system design, etc. It is also widely used, and the tutorials and materials are extremely rich (this year's Laracon is about to open). In addition, it is also good to learn phalcon. It is written in C and the code is very meaningful to learn. Of course, symfony 2 and yii are also good (better than learning thinkphp).

Currently only 3.2

The official has clearly stated that 5.0 is a beta version and is not recommended for use in projects. It will only be recommended after the official version is released

I suggest you learn laravel, it is really a good framework

First of all, if you want to get started as soon as possible, it is recommended to start with 3.2 and then 5.0, because many old projects are still developed based on 3.2 and need to be maintained. The cost of learning 5.0 after learning 3.2 is not very high. There are even identical codes in many places.
