Aug 02, 2025 am 03:03 AM

The story of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers takes many twists and turns. The fall of the Ming Dynasty, the legends of the Bo people, the mistreatment of women, and so on. While it may not always keep a singular focus, the Feathering that has infected the land does progress, all in service of one man - the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers - Dragon Emperor Zhu Youjian Boss Fight Guide

Fought behind the previously sealed Burning Cave where Wuchang first awoke, Zhu Youjian wishes to restore the power of the Ming Dynasty before it fully crumbles, though it is hard to say that this is truly the last Emperor of the Ming, and just the resurrected idea of him. Regardless of that, there is reality - Wuchang must defeat him.

Preparation For The Dragon Emperor

Before heading down to fight the Reborn, you'll want to make sure your loadout is exactly as you want it. For the most part, the Reborn attacks with physical damage, while the Dragon Emperor is a mix of physical, Magic, and Feathering. These are the resistances you'll want to build. Thankfully, there are no status effects to worry about.

For yourself, equip Fire Tempering and some Spells that can cause Burn build-up. Beyond this, it is best to use defensive Spells since you cannot use most offensive Spells against the Dragon Emperor.

Dragon Emperor's Strengths And Weaknesses

The one glaring weakness of both The Reborn and the Dragon Emperor is their poor reaction to Fire and Burn. This is the one weakness you should be trying to exploit consistently.

Beyond this, there's not too much to capitalise on. You must learn to dodge their attacks and find their openings. The one benefit here is that neither of their health bars are exceptionally large, meaning you should be able to cut through both of them fairly quickly.

Dragon Emperor - Zhu Youjian's Moveset

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers - Dragon Emperor Zhu Youjian Boss Fight Guide

Like many of the bosses at this late point in the game, The Reborn has two phases, entering its true form as the Dragon Emperor - Zhu Youjian in its second phase. Both have completely separate health bars, so you are effectively defeating two bosses at once. Here is the complete moveset for both phases:

  • Attack The Reborn leaps into the air, slamming down on you. This attack can typically be easily avoided, but don't dodge until the very last second. The Reborn will sometimes slightly change direction just before the attac lands, delaying when the attack actually lands. Roar The Reborn roars, causing you to flinch. Either equip the Dracolich Pendant to prevent flinching entirely, or dodge through the roar so you can get close to deal damage. Tail Whip At a medium distance away, the Reborn will flip and slam their tail down on you. This can be easily dodged, though does have quite a long reach, so dodg even if you think it can't reach you just in case. Ground Uplift The Reborn will slam its claw into the ground, causing sections of the ice to crack and lift up, dealing damage along its whole length. This attack can then be followed up with another claw slam that causes the uplifted ice to explode. This attack comes out faster than the regular claw slam, so be prepared to dodge even at a distance. If you're standing on the ice after the initial slam ends, then make sure to dodge away in case they perform the follow-up. Heavy Claw Slam The Reborn chases you down and begins slamming with their claws. This can be performed multiple times in a row, and can be followed up with a variety of moves, such as the Spinning Swipe or Large Slam. Dodging into these attacks is the best to get some hits in, though be wary of the Spinning Swipe that may occur at the end. Swipes The Reborn will slash quickly in front of them. These are typically done two in a row, though can sometimes be more or less. This is a relatively simple move, and one that can be dodged as usual. Blood Rain The Reborn stands up and summons a vessel of blood before crushing it, causing blood to rain down all around them. Just dodge as soon as the vessel is crushed and you are all but guaranteed to avoid the blood rain. Powerful Punch The Reborn will reel back their fist before suddenly punching, dealing heavy damage and knocking you down. For this one, it helps to be close to the Reborn and to try get around its side to avoid the attack. It comes out quite suddenly, so try to learn its timing so you can more effectively avoid it. Spinning Swipe Used after certain moves, such as regular Swipes, the Reborn does a full spin while attacking with its claws and uses the momentum to retreat backwards. This can be followed up with a Large Slam. This attack can be pulled off very quickly, so make sure to dodge again right after a regular swipe so you don't get caught out by this attack.
  • Attack As soon as the second phase begins, the Dragon Emperor teleports as far from you as possible and summons a supernova. This slowly descends before exploding, leaving behind a black hole that tries to drag you in before also exploding. The supernova tracks you, so make your way to the Dragon Emperor as it descends. Dodge just before it touches the ground, and then run opposite the black hole. It will contort just before it explodes, and this is the moment in which you should dodge. Blood Waves Typically used while you're at a distance after Supernova or Icebergs, up to three blood waves are shot in your direction from the Dragon Emperor's sword. These ae quite easily dodged, just don't get distracted by the elay between blood waves, as he can slightly delay them. Ground Stab And Rising Spears Sometimes after regular Sword Slashes, the Dragon Emperor may stab their sword directly into the ground, causing a large amount of damage and making other spears rise from the ground all around him. For this attack, because of its wide area-of-effect, you must dodge at the last second to avoid getting hit, though this is a good chance to make you way to the boss' back. Sword Slashes These are just regular sword slashes, typically performed two in a row. Can be followed up with the Ground Stab and Rising Spears, Sword Slam, or Sword Forward Slam. This is one of the few attacks you can deflect in this phase. The Dragon Emperor doesn't really react much though, so it may be better to just dodge instead. Magic Orb Arc The Dragon Emperor swipes in a wide arc around them with their Magic Orb. This deals damage on hit and leaves behind a mist that explodes after a few seconds. Provided you stay close to the Dragon Emperor, you can avoid getting hit by this magical mist at all. Sword Slam After a series of Sword Slashes, the Dragon Emperor slams down powerfully with their sword. This attack can be deflected, though is better dodged to bring you closer to the boss' back. Sword Forward Stab After a series of Sword Slashes, the Dragon Emperor stabs their sword diagonally in front of himself. This deals damage on hit, and causes damage to cascade forward from the point of impact as well. While the Ground Stab, this attack is best dodged at the very last second to avoid getting hit by the after effects. Once again, this is a good chance to try to get behind the boss. HP Vortex After over half their HP is removed, the Dragon Emperor will summon a vortex at their feet that saps the HP of all inside it and transfers that health to himself. While you may be tempted to run from this attack, it's best to heal up and keep the assault going. Provided you keep attacking, you can effectively stop the boss from gaining any HP, and hopefuly even lower it by time the attack ends. Roar Immediately after the HP Vortex, the Dragon Emperor will roar to flinch you and then teleport away. This isn't the highest risk attack even if you are hit, but does take some precious seconds in which you could have been dealing damage, so try to dodge it. Icebergs After performing the HP Vortex and teleporting away, the Dragon Emperor will drag chunks of ice from the ground and throw them in your direction. These are easily dodged, so just keep running towards the boss while avoiding them. Stomp At times, the boss may stomp directly in front of them, and then follow up with some Sword Slashes or the Magic Orb Arc. This attack has a small AOE, so dodge even if you are behind the boss for this attack.
  • As you can see, these bosses share basically nothing aside from a weakness to fire, so keep your wits about you when you enter the second phase.

How To Beat Dragon Emperor - Zhu Youjian

    The Battle

In the first phase, the most dangerous thing to look out for is the deceptively wide rage of The Reborn's attacks. They can hit quite suddenly, but also much wider than you might expect. For safety's sake, it's best to assume that you are always in range of their attacks, and to simply dodge whenever you see them attacking.

However, they are also quite weak to Fire as a damage type, and Burn as a status effect. This makes the Burning Flames Spell massively helpful, and having Fire Tempering equipped lets you double up on the damage. The Reborn also staggers quite quickly, and this can be a massive help in quickly reducing their HP.

    The Rewards

After defeating the Dragon Emperor, you are brought to the final major location of the game, and given three items - The Vermilion Ancient Chisel, the Echo of Zhu Youjian Spell, and the Jade Seal key item.
