Audio-Technica has unveiled the ATH-S300BT wireless headphones with hear-through noise-cancellation, multipoint pairing, and 90 hours of battery life.
The noise-cancelling feature has three modes: off, on, and hear-through, where ambient sounds can be heard without removing the headphones. A three-minute charge of the ATH-S300BT using the included USB cable provides 2.5 hours of runtime, and using active noise cancellation drops the 90 hours runtime to 60 hours.
The ATH-S300BT can connect to two devices over Bluetooth 5.1 from up to 33 feet (10 m) away and supports the SBC and AAC audio codecs for music playback. The low-latency mode reduces processing delays to better synchronize video with audio when gaming. A 3.5 mm audio jack with the included cable enables non-stop use for calls and music even when the battery is fully drained and reduces latency even further.
The over-ear headphones use 40 mm drivers for powerful sound while MEMS microphones enable clear conversations in noisy environments. The drivers have a frequency response of 20 to 20 kHz with a 103 dB/mW sensitivity, and the microphones have a response of 50 to 10 kHz with a -38 dB sensitivity. The 3.5 mm audio cable also has a separate, electret condenser microphone with a sensitivity of -42 dB, and mpedance is an unusual 44.5 ohms. The ATH-S300BT weighs 9.1 oz. (258 g).
The ATH-S300BT, accented with terrazzo-marbled patterns, will be available in July in beige and black at an MSRP of $99. Readers might want to pick up an Audio-Technica Sound Burger Bluetooth portable record player to rock with these headphones.
