Ubuntu 下安装PEAR DB库，报错，请帮忙解决

Ubuntu 14操作系统，pear安装成功。但执行pear install DB-1.7.14.tgz 时报错：

root@Von239723900:/var/www/html#  pear install DB-1.7.14.tgz
could not extract the package.xml file from "DB-1.7.14.tgz"
install failed

其中pear版本如下：
root@Von239723900:/var/www/html# pear version
PEAR Version: 1.9.4
PHP Version: 5.5.9-1ubuntu4
Zend Engine Version: 2.5.0
