There are many things, but the most important ones are as follows:
* Document level write lock (currently database level). This will greatly improve the concurrency of mongo.
* Replaceable storage engine - users can choose to support compression, encryption or other types of storage engines according to different needs
*MMS automation - Automatically deploy, upgrade, and manage Mongo clusters
The CTO’s Keynote at MongoDB World 2014 talked about these three new features in detail, as well as a live demo. The video is here. http://www.mongodb.com/presentations/mongodb-world-2014-keynote-eliot-horowitz
