Rare 2p coin could be worth £1,000 - but it has to be the right date and wording

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard has revealed certain 2p coins could rake in a grand.

Coin collectors, it's time to scour your spare change because a lucky find could make you a grand richer.

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard has dropped a bombshell to his 183,000 followers, revealing that certain 2p coins could be worth a small fortune.

In his latest viral video, he said: "£1,000 if your 2p says New Pence. There are so many news articles and eBay listings of people trying to sell the 1971 New Pence Two Pence coin for thousands."

But before you get too excited, it's not all 2p coins that will have you laughing all the way to the bank. He explained: "The problem is this coin is just 2p, the only 2p coin that has a value of around £1,000 is the 1983 New Pence Two Pence coin."

The user added: "Here is what you need to look for and where you need to pay attention as I get thousands of comments asking about this."

He then zeroes in on the 1983 coin as the one to watch. He revealed: "So now we know 1971 is just 2p, let's talk about the rare one.

"The 1983 New Pence coin was a mistake in Royal Mint coin packs when they changed the wording from New Pence to Two Pence.

"If you find a 2p coin, then check it first of all for the words New Pence. If it says New Pence, then check it for the date of 1983."

Bag yourself a rare 1983 2p coin and you could be rich, with it being valued at a cool £1,000. Just don't get too excited about the 1971 version as it's not worth much more than face value.

The TikTok revelation has gone viral, racking up 4,300 likes and 300 comments. One baffled user asked: "2p is still 2p, why would anyone pay £1,000?" Another boasted: "I have all."

A third chimed in: "I have one or two." And a fourth joked: "I have this coin and I'm from Malaysia."
