Microsoft is testing several improvements to Copilot in Windows 11, from task switcher (Alt Tab) integration to support for multiple monitors. The move comes ahead of Microsoft's plans to roll out Windows Copilot to more users in Europe and Asia. For those who don't know, Copilot is not available in most European countries.
Microsoft has been exploring support for Copilot integration in Windows 11’s task switcher (Alt Tab), allowing users to quickly switch between AI and applications. This feature is "optional" and Microsoft has confirmed that Copilot will not appear in the task switcher interface when not in use.
Another new feature being tested is support for multiple monitors. In Windows 11 Build 23570 or later, you can now use Copilot on multiple or shared displays (including iPads) if you extend your Windows screen to Apple hardware. First, click on the Copilot icon on your monitor's taskbar where you need to install AI.
You can use the WIN C shortcut to display Copilot on the last monitor. Even though Copilot is web-based, it still works like any other Windows application, so you can use traditional Win T keyboard shortcuts to switch focus to the taskbar and play with the AI on any monitor of your choice.
New Copilot improvements are available in Windows 11 Build 23570, which comes with other changes in the Dev Channel:
Windows Copilot is ready for a much-needed upgrade as Microsoft has started testing AI plug-in support. Plug-in support goes beyond integrating third-party services like Adobe into Windows 11’s AI.
Plug-in support enables deeper integration between Windows 11 features and Copilot. According to our sources, Microsoft will soon let you control Task Manager using AI.
We previously found a reference to "TaskManagerService-ai-plugin.json", which is the plugin for the task manager in Copilot. For example, Task Manager support for Copilot could allow users to close applications via AI.
Other AI plugins include accessibility tools, control essential Windows settings, set alarms, launch more apps, smart file operations, and more.
It's also worth noting that Windows Copilot isn't available for everyone, as some users in Europe and Asia are still waiting for AI.
Microsoft sources previously confirmed that Copilot’s availability is temporarily limited.
