Global App Store downloads increased 2.4% in the first quarter of 2022, reaching 8.6 billion. Total app downloads between the App Store and the Google Play Store were 36.9 billion, an increase of 1.4%.
Because there are far more Android users than iPhone users, far more apps are downloaded on Android devices, with 28.3 billion Google Play downloads in the quarter.
TikTok is the most downloaded app on iPhone and iPad in the world, with over 70 million App Store downloads. YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook were the other most downloaded apps, unchanged from the same period last year.
TikTok has been downloaded more than 3.5 billion times since its launch, making it the first non-Meta app to reach this milestone. In fact, no app has been downloaded more than TikTok since the beginning of 2018, according to Sensor Tower.
As for games, Subway Surfers, Wordle (2016 original), Coloring Match, PUBG Mobile, and Roblox are the most downloaded apps. Subway Surfer was downloaded more than 15 million times during the quarter.
