The PHP Foundation will publish the latest progress of the PHP core that month on the blog every month. This article describes the progress in June.
QA version and feature freeze of PHP8.2
PHP8.2 is scheduled to be released on November 24th, PHP release administrators have released Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 versions of PHP 8.2.
These Alpha versions are not suitable for use in production environments, but are used as version nodes for test environments and local development.
The compiled windows version can be found at https://windows.php.net/qa/, the Docker image can be found on Docker Hub, and the source code is in php/php-src on Github. You can compile it yourself. On Homebrew, the PHP 8.2-dev package can view relevant instructions from shivammathur/php.
July 19th is the PHP 8.2 feature freeze date, after which PHP 8.2 will no longer receive new feature suggestions. New features of PHP have a 2-week discussion period and a 2-week voting period. All RFCs (proposals) must be voted on before feature freeze.
RFC update
What changes will be made in PHP8.2 last time (performance improvements, new features)! introduced some new features that have been approved. Now some new features have been voted on and some are in progress.
Implemented: allow false and null as independent types
As mentioned in previous articles, some developers are not optimistic about this The thing is, it's not useful to think of false as an independent type. Before this, false could only be declared jointly with other types.
You can read an interview with developer George Peter Banyard in the PHP podcast. https://phpinternals.news/99, he mentioned that a large number of traditional functions return false and throw exceptions internally. It will not return anything of practical significance. Returning false may be to interrupt the execution of the current function code. So it also makes sense to use false as a standalone return value.
Implemented: allowing true as an independent type
As early as in the previous article, the editor mentioned that false can be used as an independent type type (and declared), but true cannot. This proposal proposes adding true as an independent type to make PHP's type system more expressive.
Passed: Random Extension 5.x
is the fifth iteration of an RFC proposed by Go Kudo to improve PHP's random number generator , and moved some series of changes into separate extensions.
Passed: Add deprecation notice for is_callable and add callable type
PHP will deprecate some manifestations of is_callable function in the future, but In PHP8.2 only deprecation notifications will be generated. The reason for this is, simply put, the syntax of is_callable is confusing when used. But note that is_callable only gives up the use of judging strings, such as is_callable('myFunction'), and is still available for other types, such as a variable representing a callback function.
Passed: Disjunctive Normal Form Type
This proposal proposes that PHP support more combinations of type declarations, such as:
(A&B&D)|int|null
That is to say, the value may be null, it may be an integer, or it may be an object that implements the A interface, B interface, or D interface.
You can view the proposal details: https://wiki.php.net/rfc/dnf_types
More RFC
There are more proposals under discussion. Here is a brief introduction and link.
Discussing: New CURL RUL API (adding curl class and url class)
Discussing: using enumeration attribute values when const declaration
Discussing: PDO program Subclasses with features (can improve support for sqlite and pgsql)
Under discussion: Make the iterator_*() series accept all iterable objects (currently only Traversables are accepted, but not arrays)
Under discussion: Implementing automatic Stringable in enumerations (but still cannot customize overrides)
Under discussion: short closures (anonymous functions that want to use external variables must use use statements, short closures can solve the problem Such a problem (same effect as the arrow function of js))
