Javascript is executed sequentially. JavaScript is a single-threaded language, and the execution order is top-down. That is to say, during the execution of the code, if another piece of code wants to be executed, it must wait for the execution of the current code to complete.

Is javascript executed sequentially?

The operating environment of this tutorial: windows7 system, javascript version 1.8.5, Dell G3 computer.

JavaScript’s sequential execution execution mechanism

1. Single-threaded JavaScript

Everyone You know, JavaScript is a single-threaded language, and the order of execution is top-down. JavaScript does not have the concept of multi-threading, and all programs are executed sequentially by a single thread. That is, while the code is being executed, if another piece of code wants to be executed, it must wait until the execution of the current code is completed.

Note that JavaScript only runs on one thread, which does not mean that the JavaScript engine has only one thread. In fact, the JavaScript engine has multiple threads. A single script can only run on one thread (called the main thread). The other threads cooperate in the background.

So why is js single-threaded? What about threads instead of multi-threads? Isn't multi-threading more efficient?

The reason why JavaScript is single-threaded instead of multi-threaded is related to its purpose. As a web scripting language, the main purpose of JavaScript is to interact with users and operate the DOM.

If JavaScript has two threads at the same time, one thread adds content to the DOM node of the web page, and the other thread deletes the node, which thread should the browser use? Is there also a locking mechanism?

JavaScript has been single-threaded since its birth. The reason is that we don’t want the browser to become too complicated, because multi-threads need to share resources and may modify each other’s running results. For a web script language, This is too complicated.

So, in order to avoid complexity, JavaScript was single-threaded from the beginning. This has become a core feature of the language and will not change in the future.

The advantage of this mode is that it is relatively simple to implement and the execution environment is relatively simple; the disadvantage is that as long as one task takes a long time, subsequent tasks must be queued up, which will delay the entire program. implement.

Common browser unresponsiveness (suspended death) is often caused by a certain piece of JavaScript code running for a long time (such as an infinite loop), causing the entire page to get stuck in this place and other tasks cannot be performed.

The JavaScript language itself is not slow. What is slow is reading and writing external data, such as waiting for Ajax requests to return results. At this time, if the other party's server does not respond for a long time, or the network is not smooth, it will cause the script to stagnate for a long time.

If the queue is due to a large amount of calculation and the CPU is too busy, forget it, but often the CPU is idle because the IO operations (input and output) are very slow (such as Ajax operations reading from the network) data) and have to wait for the results to come out before proceeding.

The designers of the JavaScript language realized that at this time, the CPU can completely ignore the IO operation, suspend the waiting tasks, and run the later tasks first. Wait until the IO operation returns the result, then go back and continue executing the suspended task. This mechanism is the "event loop" mechanism (Event Loop) used internally in JavaScript.

Although the single-threaded model imposes great restrictions on JavaScript, it also gives it advantages that other languages do not have. If used well, JavaScript programs will not be clogged, which is why Node can handle large traffic access with very few resources.

In order to take advantage of the computing power of multi-core CPUs, HTML5 proposes the Web Worker standard, which allows JavaScript scripts to create multiple threads, but the child threads are completely controlled by the main thread and must not operate the DOM. Therefore, this new standard does not change the single-threaded nature of JavaScript.

Now let’s look at a piece of code

function fn(){
    console.log('start');
    setTimeout(()=>{
        console.log('setTimeout');
    },0);
    console.log('end');
}

fn() // 输出 start end setTimeout

Since the execution order of JavaScript is top-down, why is the execution order of the above code disrupted?

BecauseJavaScript has two execution modes: synchronous and asynchronous

2. JavaScript synchronization and asynchronous

All tasks in the program can be divided into two categories: Synchronous tasks (synchronous) and Asynchronous tasks (asynchronous).
What are synchronous and asynchronous? How are synchronization and asynchronousness implemented?

Synchronization tasks: These are tasks that are not suspended by the engine and are queued for execution on the main thread. The next task can only be executed after the previous task has been executed.

Is javascript executed sequentially?

  • 因为单线程,所以代码自上而下执行,所有代码被放到执行栈中执行;

  • 遇到异步函数将回调函数添加到一个任务队列里面;

  • 执行栈中的代码执行完以后,会去循环任务队列里的函数;

  • 任务队列里的函数放到执行栈中执行;

  • 如此往复,称为事件循环;

function fn() {
    setTimeout(()=>{
        console.log('a');
    },0);
    new Promise((resolve)=>{
        console.log('b');
        resolve();
    }).then(()=>{
        console.log('c')
    });
}
fn() // b c a

async function async1() {
    console.log('async1 start');
    await async2();
    console.log('async1 end');
}

等同于

async function async1() {
    console.log('async1 start');
    Promise.resolve(async2()).then(() => {
                console.log('async1 end');
        })
}

两个任务分别处于任务队列中的宏队列 和 微队列中;
宏任务队列微任务队列组成了任务队列;

  2. setTimeout
  3. setInterval
  4. setImmediate (Node
  6. I/O
  7. UI rendering (浏览器独有)

  • process.nextTick (Node独有)

  • Promise

  • Object.observe

  • MutationObserver

Is javascript executed sequentially?

async function async1() {
    console.log('async1 start');
    await async2();
    console.log('async1 end');
}
async function async2() {
    console.log('async2');
}

console.log('script start');

setTimeout(function() {
    console.log('setTimeout');
}, 0)

async1();

new Promise(function(resolve) {
    console.log('promise1');
    resolve();
}).then(function() {
    console.log('promise2');
});
console.log('script end');

/*
script start
async1 start
async2
promise1
script end
async1 end
promise2
setTimeout
*/

function fn(){
    console.log(1);

    setTimeout(() => {
        console.log(2);
        Promise.resolve().then(() => {
            console.log(3);
        });
    },0);

    new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
        console.log(4);
        resolve(5);
    }).then(data => {
        console.log(data);
    });

    setTimeout(() => {
        console.log(6);
    },0);

    console.log(7);
}
fn(); //

  • step1
console.log(1);

1

  • step2
setTimeout(() => {
    // 这个回调函数叫做callback1,setTimeout属于宏任务,所以放到宏队列中
    console.log(2);
    Promise.resolve().then(() => {
        console.log(3)
    });
});

1

  • step3
new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
    // 注意,这里是同步执行的
    console.log(4);
    resolve(5)
}).then((data) => {
    // 这个回调函数叫做callback2,promise属于微任务,所以放到微队列中
    console.log(data);
});

1
4

  • step4
setTimeout(() => {
    // 这个回调函数叫做callback3,setTimeout属于宏任务,所以放到宏队列中
    console.log(6);
})

1
4

  • step5
console.log(7)

  • step7
console.log(2);

  • step8
Promise.resolve().then(() => {
    // 这个回调函数叫做callback4,promise属于微任务,所以放到微队列中
    console.log(3);
});

Promise ]

  • step9
console.log(3)

  • step10
console.log(6)
