Although there are many WordPress plug-ins that can assist in backing up website databases, it is necessary for webmasters/bloggers to master the basic phpMyAdmin backup operations. For example, some plug-ins require logging into the WordPress management console for backup and recovery. If an exception occurs on the website, such plug-ins cannot continue to be used.
phpMyAdmin is an open source and free (as free as WordPress) MySQL database management tool. Therefore, almost all hosting space service providers provide phpMyAdmin software.
Use the MySQL database management tool phpMyAdmin to back up the database
The process of backing up the database is essentially to export the contents of the database as a file and save it to the local computer hard drive or network disk , or other safe and reliable storage media.
The first step is to log in to the host management system, find [phpMyAdmin], and click to enter. Different hosting management systems may have different locations. If you can't find it, you can contact the hosting service provider for consultation.
In the cPanel management system, [phpMyAdmin] is translated as [phpMy management], which is in line with the original meaning of its name: php MySQL Admin.
In the left navigation bar, select the database you want to back up, and then click [Export]. If the database of your website is relatively large, the exported data file will also be relatively large. You can select the export method to [Custom], and then select [Compression] in the [Output] option: you can choose to export to zip compression format or gz compression format.
Click the [Go] button to start downloading the exported database file.
After saving the file to your local computer through the browser, you should save it properly so that you can quickly find it when needed. At the same time, you can also make several copies and save them in other safe and reliable media, such as U disk, network disk, etc.
Use cPanel backup tool for database backup
For cPanel hosting, you can use a simpler method for database backup.
After logging in to the cPanel management system, in the [Files] area, click the [Backups] icon, and the backup options will appear:
In In the [Partial Backups] section, you can find the backup file of the database. Click the name of the database file that needs to be backed up to download the backup file to your local computer.
