Compared with ordinary sensors, a trench capacitor is added to the pixel with LOFIC. When the charge exceeds the maximum capacity that the pixel can originally carry (maximum well capacity), the excess charge will flow to the capacitor. , overexposure is avoided, and highlights can be clearly displayed in the image.

LOFIC technology requires the integration of capacitors with large surface areas and deep trenches around the photodiodes. The circuit structure within the pixel is complex, making it difficult and costly to implement in mobile phones with relatively limited space.
