vCenter Server and host management

Connection to vCenter Server

When you use vSphere Client to connect to vCenter Server, you can manage vCenter Server and all hosts and virtual machines it manages

1 Run VMware vSphere Client

Log in locally as an administrator; enter the IP address or vCenter Server name; enter the Windows administrator user name; enter Windows Administrator password

2 When connecting to vCenter Server for the first time after installation, there are no objects in the inventory

Second host management

Create data Center: Equivalent to a container, hosts in the same data center can be clustered

1 Click to create a data center, enter the name

Add a host: Add the ESXi host to the data center

1 Right-click the newly created data center, select Add Host, enter the host name or IP address, enter the user name and password, and click Next (ESXi host user name and password)

2 Click "Yes" in the security alert dialog box

3 Confirm the host summary information and click Next

4 Enter the license, so vCenter Server is in evaluation mode, Click Next

5Select a location from the inventory object list and click Next

6Click Finish to complete the host addition

Create virtual Machine:

1 Click Hosts and Clusters on the vCenter Server home page.

2 In the Inventory panel, select the host.

3 Click Create New Virtual Machine on the Getting Started tab.

4 Select Typical and click Next.

5 Type the virtual machine name, select the inventory location, and click Next.

6 Select the datastore where you want to store the virtual machine files and click Next (the datastore must be large enough to store the virtual machine and all its virtual disk files)

7 In the guest Under Machine Operating System, select the operating system family (Microsoft Windows, Linux, or Other), and then select the version from the drop-down list.

This is the operating system for virtual machines. Choose based on how you plan to use your virtual machine.

Note that the wizard does not install the guest operating system. The New Virtual Machine wizard uses this information to select appropriate default values, such as the amount of memory required.

8 Leave the default network configuration and click Next.

9 Specify the size of the virtual disk, select Thin Provisioning, and click Next.

Enter the disk size in megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB). The virtual disk must be large enough to hold the guest operating system and all software you plan to install, as well as allow room for data and data growth.

10 On the New Virtual Machine Almost Completed page, review your selections and click Finish to create the new virtual machine

After you create the virtual machine, proceed to install it on it Guest Operating System and VMware Tools

Three Templates and Clones

·A template is the master copy of a virtual machine and can be used to create and provision the virtual machine. Template cannot be launched or edited.

·You must be connected to vCenter Server to clone a virtual machine. Unable to clone virtual machine if connected directly to ESXi host

You can customize the guest operating system of a cloned virtual machine to change the virtual machine name, network settings, and other properties. This prevents conflicts when simultaneously deploying a virtual machine and a cloned virtual machine with the same guest operating system settings

To customize the guest operating system of a virtual machine, check whether the guest operating system meets the customization requirements Require. The details are as follows:

Windows requirements

Customizing the Windows guest operating system requires meeting the following conditions:

Microsoft Sysprep must be installed in the vCenter Server system Tool

The ESXi host where the virtual machine is running must be version 3.5 or higher.

Linux Requirements

Custom Linux Guest Operating System Requirements Perl is already installed on the Linux guest operating system.

VMware Tools Requirements

To customize the guest operating system during cloning or deployment, the latest version of VMware Tools must be installed on the virtual machine or template.

Virtual disk requirements

The customized guest operating system must be installed on a disk connected as SCSI node 0:0 in the virtual machine configuration

Clone Virtual Machine

1 Right-click the virtual machine and select Clone.

2 Enter the virtual machine name and select a location, then click Next.

3 Select the host or cluster on which to run the new virtual machine

4 Select the resource pool in which to run the virtual machine and click Next.

5 Select the data storage location where you want to store the virtual machine files

6 Select the format for the virtual machine disk and click Next

7 Select the guest operating system Customization Options

8 Review the selections you made and choose whether to power on the virtual machine or edit the virtual machine settings

The cloned virtual machine will be deployed. You cannot use or edit the virtual machine until the clone is complete. If the cloning involves creating a virtual disk, the cloning may take several minutes. Cloning can be canceled at any time before the customization phase

Convert a virtual machine to a template

After converting a virtual machine to a template, you cannot edit or start the template unless you convert the template back to a virtual machine

After converting the virtual machine to a template Before converting a virtual machine to a template, select and power off the virtual machine in the inventory

1Right-click the virtual machine and select Template> Convert to Template

Virtual Clone a machine to a template

Clone a virtual machine to a template creates a template copy of the virtual machine while leaving the original virtual machine in its original location

1 Right-click the virtual machine and Select Template > Clone as Template.

2 Name the new template and select its manifest location, then click Next.

3 Go through the destination page and click Next.

4 Specify the storage format of the template's virtual disk and click Next

5 Select the data storage location where you want to store the virtual machine files.

6 Click Finish

Deploying a virtual machine from a template

Deploying a virtual machine from a template will create a new virtual machine that is a copy of the template . The new virtual machine has virtual hardware, installed software, and other properties configured for the template

1 Right-click the template and select Deploy virtual machine from this template.

2 Enter the virtual machine name and select a location, then click Next.

3 Select the host or cluster on which to run the new virtual machine.

4 Select the resource pool in which to run the virtual machine and click Next.

5 Select the data storage location where you want to store the virtual machine files.

6 Select the appropriate format for the virtual machine disk and click Next.

7 Select guest operating system customization options.

8 Review your selections and choose whether to power on the virtual machine or edit virtual machine settings.

The virtual machine has been deployed. You cannot use or edit the virtual machine until the deployment is complete. If the deployment involves creating a virtual disk, the deployment may take a few minutes

四vSphere Web client server

Use the web page to manage the virtual machine

1 Install vSphere Web client server

2 After the installation is complete, find the vSphere Web client server management tool in the start menu and click Registration

3 in the upper right corner to register; enter the IP of the machine at the bottom

4 Open vSphere Web client (Start-All Programs-Vmware-vSphere Client) and log in. Other operations are similar to vSphere Client
