Microsoft is promoting Windows 11 as the latest, safest, and greatest desktop operating system for consumers, but the operating system has many flaws, and as more and more people try Windows 11, Issues are still being reported. Microsoft is willing to address the shortcomings of Windows 11, but there's a problem — some features won't be coming back anytime soon.

The big problem with Windows 11 is its taskbar. The taskbar has been rebuilt from the ground up, and Microsoft is busy adding minor features to the taskbar, including a better icon overflow experience or system tray optimization for tablets or touchscreen PCs running Windows 11.

Currently, the taskbar does not support basic functions such as complete right-click menu, drag and drop, and change position. While drag-and-drop functionality is set to return in Windows 11 version 22H2, Microsoft has confirmed that it won't be adding the option to move the taskbar position to the top, left, or right.

Although it is one of the most popular features, it is not on the company's priority list. For those who don’t know, Windows 11’s taskbar is locked at the bottom and there’s no way to change its position to the top or other sides of the screen.

In a recent Windows Insider webcast, Microsoft's Windows 11 development team confirmed that the ability to change the taskbar position will not be added because of the current design of the Start menu or The animation pipeline is not ready yet.

"There are a lot of challenges when it comes to actually being able to move the taskbar to a different location on the screen. Think about putting the taskbar to the right, rearranging it and all the apps or the start menu all at once Work..." Microsoft said.

Microsoft noted that it was "rebuilding the taskbar from the ground up," and they had to pick and choose which important features to put in. Not many people use the top, left or right taskbar, so the option to change its position is to add to a new taskbar.

Microsoft is currently looking to help a "larger user base," focusing on features like drag-and-drop, overflow icons, or tablet optimization.

Of course, the ability to change the position of the taskbar will come to Windows 11 previews at some point in the future, but not in the release build of Windows 11 version 22H2 or anytime soon.
