As we As described in a blog post here , Windows Insiders using the Dev Channel may try out new ideas, longer lead features, and experiences designed to help prove concepts. Starting with this preview build, some Insiders will see one of these conceptual features as we begin exploring exposing lightweight interactive content on the Windows desktop. Today, Windows exposes this type of content in the Widgets board. To begin to evaluate this general idea and interaction model, the first exploration of this area added a search box that appeared on the desktop, enabling you to search the web.

Microsoft notes that Windows Insiders should be aware that features released in development builds may never make it to beta and stable builds of Windows 11, as the development channel is where features are tested . You can read the full statement below:

Dev Channel receives builds from our engineers that represent long-term lead work, with features and experiences that may never be released, Because we try out different concepts and get feedback. It's important to remember that the builds we release to the Development Channel should not be considered to match any specific Windows version, and features included may change over time, be removed, or be included in Insider builds be replaced, or may never be released outside of Windows to the general public. For more information, read this blog post about how we plan to use the Dev Channel to incubate new ideas, work on long-term lead projects, and control the status of individual features.
