After months of user hype and anticipation, Microsoft's Windows subsystem for Android is finally here. While the feature has been available on Insider machines for nearly six months, it's now available to anyone with a supported device running Windows 11 version 21H2. Android beta support is listed on Microsoft's FAQ site, and there are nearly five major requirements your device must meet to run the mobile app properly. A full list of supported PCs with supported versions of Android isn't currently available, but if your device meets Windows 11 requirements, it should be able to run mobile apps. Specifically, you'll need a device running Windows 11 version 21H2 or later, with at least 8GB of RAM (instead of the 4GB required by Windows 11 itself), and with an officially supported processor from Microsoft. Additionally, you need to enable the virtual machine platform feature from the Optional Features page. Here's the full list of requirements: RAM: 8 GB (minimum) and 16 GB (recommended). Storage type: Solid State Drive (SSD). Processor: Your device should meet Windows 11 requirements, i.e. Core i3 8th Gen, Ryzen 3000, Snapdragon 8c or higher. Processor type: x64 or ARM64. Virtual machine platform: This optional setting is for virtualization and you need to enable it from the control panel. Additionally, if you want to download and run the 1,000+ Android apps from the Amazon AppStore, be sure to set your device's region to the English-speaking United States. If you meet the above requirements, you can download and install the latest optional update for Windows 11 ( KB5010414 ), which includes a public preview of the Android app. For US users, they can access more than 1,000 Amazon AppStore items on Windows 11, including popular apps and even games. This includes Audible, Kindle, Subway Surfers, and more. Amazon Store integration in the Microsoft Store lets you download Android apps on Windows 11 just like any other app from the Microsoft Store. You'll be able to discover the apps through the Microsoft Store, but downloads are powered by the Amazon Appstore. As we recently reported , Android support in Windows 11 is the result of the company's contribution to the Windows Subsystem for Linux. Android integration is built on the open source Android platform and powered by Intel Bridge Technology. Android support is not limited to the Amazon AppStore, so you can also load apps manually without switching your region and language to US (English).
