Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay revealed during a keynote speech at Computex 2022 that Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system has the highest product satisfaction among all Windows operating system versions.

Microsoft: Windows 11 product satisfaction and adoption hit record highs

Microsoft released Windows 11 to the public in October 2021. The operating system is released as a free upgrade for devices with qualifying Windows 10 licenses, as well as a commercial version that people around the world can purchase.

This month, Microsoft switched the operating system's status to Widely Deployed, a status used as a deployment signal by organizations around the world.

During Panay’s keynote with Microsoft Device Partner Sales CVP Nicole Dezen, Panay reiterated that quality is of the utmost importance to the team.

This is the most important thing for our team, quality, quality, quality. People using it [Windows 11] are discovering the quality of the product, which is really cool. This also translates into product satisfaction. This is the highest product satisfaction rating we've ever seen for any version of Windows we've released.

In January 2022, Panay used similar words to emphasize the quality aspects of the operating system:

Windows 11 also has the highest quality of any Windows version we have released quality scores and product satisfaction. Product quality is a huge focus for the team, and we take a thoughtful and staged approach to how we roll out upgrades.

It's unclear how Panay and Microsoft define quality. Windows 11 was released with quite a few issues, including issues that affected the performance of AMD devices by up to 15% and issues that affected Brother printer printing.

We have logged a total of 24 officially confirmed Windows 11 issues since the operating system was released.

Windows 11 Adoption

Customers are upgrading to Windows 11 at twice the rate Microsoft recorded for its Windows 10 operating system. The suggested growth is impressive considering Microsoft's past aggressive push for Windows 10 on customer devices to reach its goal of 1 billion Windows devices installed within 2-3 years. That's even more of a feat when you add in the fact that Windows 11 can't be easily installed on incompatible devices.

Microsoft officially released Windows 10 on July 29, 2015. A month later, on August 27, Microsoft revealed that Windows 10 was running on 75 million devices. Windows 11 would have to be running on 150 million devices a month after release at this stage to see twice the adoption rate.

Shortly thereafter, Windows 10's growth slowed. It took the operating system nearly two years to reach the 500 million device milestone. Microsoft has yet to reveal the number of devices running Windows 11 since the operating system launched.
