What does backslash mean in python

1. Python itself uses \ to escape some special characters, such as when adding quotation marks to a string

s = 'i\'m superman'
print(s)    # i'm superman
Copy after login

2. Backslashes can also be used in Python Used as a line continuation character at the end of a line.

Example:

hello = "This is a rather long string containing\n\
several lines of text just as you would do in C.\n\
    Note that whitespace at the beginning of the line is\
 significant."

print(hello)
Copy after login

Note that the newline character must still be represented by \n - the newline character after the backslash is discarded. The above example will output the following:

This is a rather long string containing
several lines of text just as you would do in C.
    Note that whitespace at the beginning of the line is significant.
Copy after login
