Goodbye Java EE, rebranded as Jakarta

In August 2017, Oracle decided to hand over Java EE (Java Enterprise Edition) to an open source organization, and finally the Eclipse Foundation took over.

This should be Oracle's latest move to achieve control over the Java brand, although Sun's assets have been surrounded by Oracle before and only one VirtualBox is left to breathe.

However, Oracle does not allow open source organizations to use the name Java, so Eclipse selected two subsequent names: "Jakarta EE" and "Enterprise Profile". In the end, the former won with 64.4% of the votes.

In other words, Java EE has been officially renamed Jakarta EE (Jakarta).

It is not that open source organizations have not fought for it. The reason is that using Java can perfectly maintain compatibility, especially the API, but this cannot shake Oracle's will.

At the same time, Glassfish was officially renamed Eclipse Glassfish, the Java Community Process was renamed Eclipse EE.next Working Group, and even the Oracle development management team has now become the Eclipse Enterprise for Java Project Management Committee.

Mike Milinkovich, the person in charge of Eclipse, also emphasized that Jakarta EE is now their primary project, and various support for development will soon be improved. In addition, don’t use the old name EE4J anymore.

In fact, many people believe that Oracle bought Java just to "extort" money from Google. As a result, it lost the lawsuit twice. Now many of Sun's software businesses and old employees have basically disappeared from Oracle's corporate DNA. .
