At its worst,
Web development is a boring and monotonous job. So far, we have introduced how Django reduces the monotony of development at the model and template level, but web development also experiences this tedious thing at the view level.

Django’s generic views can reduce these pains. It abstracts some codes and patterns commonly used in view development, so that commonly used data views can be quickly written without writing a lot of code. In fact, almost all the examples of views in the previous chapters can be rewritten with the help of generic views.

In Chapter 8, I briefly introduce to you how to make the view more "universal". Looking back, we will find some of the more common tasks, such as displaying a series of objects and writing a piece of code to display the contents of any object. The solution is to pass an extra parameter to URLConf.

Django’s built-in universal view can achieve the following functions:

§ Complete common simple tasks: redirect to Another page and renders a specified template.

#§ Display the list and details page of a specific object. The event_list and entry_list views mentioned in Chapter 8 are an example of a list view. A single
event page is what we call a detailed content page.

§ Presents the year/month/day archive page, associated details page, and latest page of date-based data. The year, month, and day archives of Django
Weblogs (http://www.djangoproject.com/weblog/) use a universal view architecture, just like a typical news newspaper archive.

§ Allow users to create, modify, and delete objects with or without authorization.

#To sum up, these views provide easy-to-use interfaces for common tasks in developers' daily development.

Using universal views

The way to use universal views is to create configuration dictionaries in the URLconf file, and then use these dictionaries as the third member of the URLconf tuple.

For example, here is a URLconf that renders a static "About" page:

from django.conf.urls.defaults import *
from django.views.generic.simple import direct_to_template
urlpatterns = patterns('',
('^about/$', direct_to_template, {
'template': 'about.html'
})
)
Copy after login

At first glance it may seem a bit weird, a view that requires no coding! It's exactly the same as the example in Chapter 8: the direct_to_template view gets the relevant information needed to render the view from the parameters.

Because generic views are standard view functions, we can reuse them in our own views. For example, we extend the about example to map the URL from /about// to a statically rendered about/.html. We first modify the URL configuration to the new view function:

from django.conf.urls.defaults import *
from django.views.generic.simple import direct_to_template
**from mysite.books.views import about_pages**
urlpatterns = patterns('',
('^about/$', direct_to_template, {
'template': 'about.html'
}),
**('^about/(w+)/$', about_pages),**
)
Copy after login

Next, we write the code for the about_pages view:

from django.http import Http404
from django.template import TemplateDoesNotExist
from django.views.generic.simple import direct_to_template
def about_pages(request, page):
try:
return direct_to_template(request, template="about/%s.html" % page)
except TemplateDoesNotExist:
raise Http404()
Copy after login

Here we use direct_to_template like other functions. Since it returns an HttpResponse object, we simply return it. There is a slight complication, dealing with the case where the template is not found. We don't want a non-existent template to cause a server error, so we catch the TempalteDoesNotExist exception and return a 404 error.

Are there any security issues here?

Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed a possible security vulnerability: we directly use the data from the client browser to construct the template name (template="about/%s .html"%page). At first glance, this looks like a classic directory traversal attack (see Chapter 19 for details). Is the truth really like this?

totally not. Yes, a malicious page value can cause directory spanning, but even though the page is fetched from the requested URL, not all values are accepted. This is the key to URL configuration: we use the regular expression /w+ to match the page from the URL, and /w only accepts characters and numbers. Therefore, any malicious characters (such as dot . and forward slash / in this case) will be rejected when parsing the URL and will not be passed to the view function at all.

Generic Views of Objects

direct_to_template is undoubtedly very useful, but Django’s generic views are most useful when rendering data from a database. Because this application is so common, Django comes with many built-in generic views to help you easily generate list and detail views of objects.

Let us first look at one of the common views: the object list view. We use the Publisher in Chapter 5 as an example:

class Publisher(models.Model):
name = models.CharField(maxlength=30)
address = models.CharField(maxlength=50)
city = models.CharField(maxlength=60)
state_province = models.CharField(maxlength=30)
country = models.CharField(maxlength=50)
website = models.URLField()
def __str__(self):
return self.name
class Meta:
ordering = ["-name"]
class Admin:
pass
Copy after login

To create a list page for all books, we use the following URL configuration:

from django.conf.urls.defaults import *
from django.views.generic import list_detail
from mysite.books.models import Publisher
publisher_info = {
"queryset" : Publisher.objects.all(),
}
urlpatterns = patterns('',
(r'^publishers/$', list_detail.object_list, publisher_info)
)
Copy after login

This is all the Python code to be written . Of course, we also need to write a template. We could clearly tell the object_list view which template to use by including template_name in the extra parameters dictionary, but since Django will infer one from the name of the object when a template is not given. In this example, the derived template name would be "books/publisher_list.html", where the books part is the name of the app that defines this model, and the

publisher part is the lowercase version of the model name.

{% extends "base.html" %}
{% block content %}
<h2>Publishers</h2>
<ul>
{% for publisher in object_list %}
<li>{{ publisher.name }}</li>
{% endfor %}
</ul>
{% endblock %}
Copy after login

Context

我们可以很容易的象下面这样修改template_object_name参数的名称:

publisher_info = {
"queryset" : Publisher.objects.all(),
**"template_object_name" : "publisher",**
}
urlpatterns = patterns(&#39;&#39;,
(r&#39;^publishers/$&#39;, list_detail.object_list, publisher_info)
)
Copy after login

使用有用的template_object_name总是个好想法。

Context

publisher_info = {
"queryset" : Publisher.objects.all(),
"template_object_name" : "publisher",
**"extra_context" : {"book_list" : Book.objects.all()}**
}
Copy after login

def get_books():
return Book.objects.all()
publisher_info = {
"queryset" : Publisher.objects.all(),
"template_object_name" : "publisher",
"extra_context" : **{"book_list" : get_books}**
}
Copy after login

publisher_info = {
"queryset" : Publisher.objects.all(),
"template_object_name" : "publisher",
"extra_context" : **{"book_list" : Book.objects.all}**
}
Copy after login

book_info = {
"queryset" : Book.objects.all().order_by("-publication_date"),
}
urlpatterns = patterns(&#39;&#39;,
(r&#39;^publishers/$&#39;, list_detail.object_list, publisher_info),
**(r&#39;^books/$&#39;, list_detail.object_list, book_info),**
)
Copy after login

**apress_books = {**
**"queryset": Book.objects.filter(publisher__name="Apress Publishing"),**
**"template_name" : "books/apress_list.html"**
**}**
urlpatterns = patterns(&#39;&#39;,
(r&#39;^publishers/$&#39;, list_detail.object_list, publisher_info),
**(r&#39;^books/apress/$&#39;, list_detail.object_list, apress_books),**
)
Copy after login

Apress

urlpatterns = patterns(&#39;&#39;,
(r&#39;^publishers/$&#39;, list_detail.object_list, publisher_info),
**(r&#39;^books/(w+)/$&#39;, books_by_publisher),**
)
Copy after login

from django.http import Http404
from django.views.generic import list_detail
from mysite.books.models import Book, Publisher
def books_by_publisher(request, name):
# Look up the publisher (and raise a 404 if it can&#39;t be found).
try:
publisher = Publisher.objects.get(name__iexact=name)
except Publisher.DoesNotExist:
raise Http404
# Use the object_list view for the heavy lifting.
return list_detail.object_list(
request,
queryset = Book.objects.filter(publisher=publisher),
template_name = "books/books_by_publisher.html",
template_object_name = "books",
extra_context = {"publisher" : publisher}
)
Copy after login

from mysite.books.views import author_detail
urlpatterns = patterns(&#39;&#39;,
#...
**(r&#39;^authors/(?P<author_id>d+)/$&#39;, author_detail),**
)
Copy after login

import datetime
from mysite.books.models import Author
from django.views.generic import list_detail
from django.shortcuts import get_object_or_404
def author_detail(request, author_id):
# Look up the Author (and raise a 404 if she&#39;s not found)
author = get_object_or_404(Author, pk=author_id)
# Record the last accessed date
author.last_accessed = datetime.datetime.now()
author.save()
# Show the detail page
return list_detail.object_detail(
request,
queryset = Author.objects.all(),
object_id = author_id,
)
Copy after login

注意

除非你添加last_accessed字段到你的Author模型并创建books/author_detail.html模板,否则这段代码不能真正工作。

def author_list_plaintext(request):
response = list_detail.object_list(
request,
queryset = Author.objects.all(),
mimetype = "text/plain",
template_name = "books/author_list.txt"
)
response["Content-Disposition"] = "attachment; filename=authors.txt"
return response
Copy after login
