"Sea of Thieves" has added a very challenging boss in the 15th season - the fearful Red Maw, a fire-filled Megatonous Shark. Its powerful attack is enough to destroy unprepared ships, leaving multiple holes in the hull and triggering fires. Even if you are ready, defeating it is still a tough battle.
This guide is designed to help you prepare for battle, find the behemoth and ultimately defeat it. Make sure you have enough boards and buckets ready.
1. Battle preparation
The Feared Red Maw is a particularly challenging Megalodon battle; most players think it is harder to deal with than another Megalodon boss added in the 15 season, the Barnacle Behemoth. You must be fully prepared before fighting it.
First, your vessel should be equipped with a maximum number of crew members. Although the community has not fully figured out the specifics, the difficulty of the feared red maw will vary with the size of the ship. Its health and damage will increase with the size of the ship. If you don't fill the boat, your efficiency will be greatly reduced.
When it comes to supply, your ship should stock up with adequate planks and a considerable number of shells and make sure your stock is also full of these items. All crew members should be equipped with long-distance eyes because it can cause considerable damage and is relatively easy to hit, while also having plenty of food, such as mangoes, pineapples and meat.
As you approach the fearful red maw, assume that your ship will soon be in a fire due to the creature's attack. Get a bucket of water ready, fill the bucket on the boat, and consider laying a thin layer of water under the deck instead of keeping it completely dry.
2. Looking for red maw
Like its kind, the barnacle behemoth, you can encounter the fearful red maw at sea without any extra operation. However, only one will appear at the same time, and it doesn't always exist.
In any given world, only fearful red maw or barnacle behemoth will appear at the same time. If you are hunting one of them but see the other, you will need to wait to hunt your target's prey.
To find the feared red maw, raise the Hunter's Covenant Covenant Flag. You must then upgrade your messenger flag to level 5 so that you can see the feared red maw (and barnacle behemoth) on the map as long as the flag is fluttering and the creature has spawned. If you don't see the creature's logo, it may have been defeated. If this is the case, you need to wait for another creature to spawn. Also, note that the creature moves long distances around the map regularly, so check it occasionally as you move towards it to make sure it doesn't jump multiple blocks suddenly.
It doesn’t matter how you raise the level of the messenger flag, apart from time and convenience. In the test, performing a Hunter's Appointment Fishing Sail (you'll be asked to catch a precious fish) is a fairly fast, profitable and easy way to raise the flag. At the time of writing, among the two available fishing voyages, longer voyages are better for efficient ratings, provided you have unlocked the voyage. The only danger in these voyages is the other players.
3. Hunting Red Maw
Once you find the Red Maw, the entire crew on board needs to be prepared for a fatal encounter. The creature has two attacks that require you to prepare for, and if they successfully hit, both of them pose a serious threat:
A typical strategy for dealing with megalodons is to have the ship in a circular pattern and slow down, as the creatures will adapt to your speed anyway, while moving slower makes it easier to aim. Then, you can attack them using the Eye of the Long Range and shoot them with cannons where possible. Trying to repel any charge should be a top priority; this is especially true for fear of the red maw. Cooperation will be the key.
It will be very important to keep repairs, drainage and fire extinguishing during combat. If your boat is leaking or burning, someone needs to fix it. However, if there are no major issues that need to be dealt with, everyone should be involved in the attack. In this battle, no one should stand by.
The main difference between the fearful red maw and other bosses is its explosive attack. This kind of attack is triggered in combat (possibly multiple times) and when triggered it will greatly change the course of the battle. Fires need to be dealt with as soon as possible; if multiple crew members die when a ship leaks, it will be extremely difficult to keep the ship floating.
If the explosion is close, the crew actually has two simultaneous problems besides the fire. First, the ship will suffer a severe impact and will need to be repaired immediately at least some holes, and if the ship just needs to be drained. Secondly, parts need to be repaired, with masts first, and then the steering wheel. In theory, the damaged winch can be repaired later; it just gets stuck in the anchor, but you shouldn't break down in the battle anyway.
只要您管理好上述所有内容(说起来容易做起来难),保持船只修补好、排水并基本没有着火,那么获胜所需要的只是用足够的枪火和大炮击中惧怕的红maw。 If you are not used to dealing with Megdolism and multitasking, this battle is really hard, but it is not impossible. Stay calm, try to cause damage continuously, and keep the boat floating.
Fourth, final suggestions
Players who fight the fearful red maw or any other boss in Sea of Thieves should be aware of the risks of other crew members who may snatch their bosses and kill and/or attack their ships at any time. This is because fighting a boss, especially a pretty challenging boss like the fearful Red Maw, is often the most vulnerable time for the ship. Plus, it usually means that ships fighting the fearful Red Maw usually fly the Level 5 Hunter Covenant Messenger flag. All in all, the ships fighting this terrible boss are easily targeted by other players, especially those flying the flag of Death Bone Messenger.
A major risk to this boss is how many players it can gather in one place. Only one will appear at the same time. Anyone with the Level 5 Hunter Covenant Flag knows where it is, and anyone with the Level 5 Death Bone Flag knows the location of any other person who flutters the Messenger Flag (meaning they may be attracted to ships that wander while fighting the boss or obviously gather in the same area with other ships, even if the Death player doesn't actually know where the Fearful Red Maw is).
While balancing so many things at the same time during a battle can be a challenge, you should try scanning the horizon at least occasionally to see if other players are approaching. If they are approaching, assume they intend to attack your ship and/or rob your red maw kill.
