In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are quite a few materials. So many. Too many to wrap your head around, honestly. Every monster comes packed with materials, and even more at High Rank. But monsters aren't the only way to get materials in the game. There is a hefty amount of items you can find while exploring.
Though it may be sorely missed from Monster Hunter 3, underwater combat hasn't seen its return yet. A small semblance of it does exist here though, with you able to dive underwater in select areas. And this is where you'll find the coveted Gobletweed and Chaliceweed.
Gobletweed is one of those items you'll pick up, and then likely forget where you got it since it's only located in rather specific locations in the Scarlet Forest. It, and its much rarer relative, Chaliceweed, are only found underwater. As you explore the world, you will at times find bodies of water with the 'Dive In' prompt. This lets you jump into the water, swimming underwater along a preset path.
However, you have some small control while underwater still. You can still look around and aim with your Slinger. This lets you grab all the items in this brief submerged section, with Gobletweed and Chaliceweed found here by gathering from the Glass Algae plant.
After you've gathered from a Glass Algae point, you can set a filter on the map to quickly find it again.
Gobletweed is the default item you will get from Glass Algae gathering points, with Chaliceweed being the rarer drop. During the Plenty, the drop rate for Chaliceweed will be higher, especially from those that are covered in white sparkles. You can also use the Botanist and Geologist skills to increase thenumber of tiems you get from each gathering point.
After you've gathered up some Gobletweed and Chaliceweed, you'll probably want to put it to use. Of course, it gives you a healthy number of Guild Points, but it has a more specific function as well, and that's for use in trading with everyone's favourite Wudwud, Rove.
Despite dwelling in the Iceshard Cliffs, Rove is the only character to make use of Gobletweed and Chaliceweed, allowing you to trade for many various items like Comaqchi Carapace and Truffle du Conga. It's a small taste of home for him, and a nice trade for you.
Where possible, make sure to have a Gathering Boost active in the Iceshard Cliffs to boost the number of items Rove trades you.
