Brighter Shores: Guard Profession Leveling Guide

In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to level the Guard profession of Brighter Shores. This will include tips for leveling, every enemy in Hopeport, and how to get better equipment as you rise through the levels. There is a difference between hostile and passive enemies, so we will take a look at this as well and note which enemies will attack if you attack first.

Brighter Shores is currently in Early Access on Steam and as such, the content is subject to change. We will update these articles as required.

What Is The Guard Profession?

The Guard profession is combat that is specifically tied to guarding Hopeport. As you move on to other areas of the world, your main combat profession will change. For example, in Act Two, your combat profession is Scout, which is fitting for the forest setting.

By defeating enemies in Hopeport, you'll be able to level up your Guard profession. This is pretty simple to understand, but there are 500 levels in the profession, so reaching this can seem quite daunting.

Tips To Level The Guard Profession

Thankfully, we have some tips to help you level your Guard profession. First and foremost, it's important to know that Brighter Shores involves a lot of grinding. You will be grinding for every profession in the game, and this is no different in the Guard profession.

At times, you will find yourself running around an area waiting for the local enemies to respawn; this is normal. Overall though, the best piece of advice that we can give you is defeat enemies that are near your level. For example, if you are level 20, you don't really need to defeat anything under level 15, as this won't get you a significant amount of XP.

The Enchantress typically enchanted equipment with a permanent experience boost, but they refuse to enchant anything used for violence. As such, you can't use the Enchantress to help level the Guard profession.

You'll also be able to boost the amount of experience you earn in general for Hopeport professions. This is done with potions that you craft at the Alchemist. For example, once you reach level four in Alchemy, you can make a potion that boosts your experience gain for all Hopeport professions by five percent.

As you level up, this percentage can increase as you level up in Alchemy. At level 50, this boost will become seven percent, and at level 185, it will become ten percent. Potions are a great way to supplement your experience gain while grinding enemies around Hopeport.

You can also buy these potions from the Alchemist.

Passive Leveling

Every so often, you'll gain a knowledge point as a reward for leveling up your skills. This point can be used to gain a chunk of experience or silver, but you can also use it to unlock passive fighting. For example, at level 20, you can use a knowledge point to unlock passive auto-battling with the Street Louse.

This is best used if you plan to log out of the game and do something else for a while, as the passive activity persists when you are offline. The gain is less than if you were to fight the enemy normally, but it can be helpful if you don't feel like playing for too long.

How To Get New Gear

Gear drops when you defeat enemies. While this is a bit random, it's still consistent enough that you can gather a full set of gear and some weapons. There is currently no way to buy armor and weapons, but you can sell extras to the Quartermaster located in the Training Grounds.

What Happens If You Die?

So, you've died in battle. Don't worry, as there doesn't seem to be any consequences from this. Currently, if you die in Brighter Shores, you'll be teleported to the Infirmary at the Training Grounds of Hopeport.

The biggest downside is that you'll need to run all the way back to where you were if you want to continue fighting.
