Scroll Airdrop Allocation Met With Dismay From Farmers
Scroll has set aside 15% for future airdrops, but that isn't enough according to airdrop farmers.
Layer-2 network Scroll (SCR) has set aside 15% of its total token supply for future airdrops, a move that has drawn criticism from some in the crypto community.
Of the 15% allocated for airdrops, 7% will be distributed to early adopters of Scroll, while another 5.5% has been earmarked for users of centralized exchange Binance's Launchpool.
The remaining 2.5% will be distributed to users who participated in Scroll's testnet, known as zkEVM.
Airdrop farmers, who typically engage in a range of activities to qualify for crypto airdrops, have expressed不满 with the small portion of tokens allocated for their efforts.
The news comes as Scroll prepares to launch its mainnet on Oct. 22, paving the way for the launch of its governance token, SCR.
The token will be used for voting on治理 proposals and is set to transition into a protocol utility token as Scroll becomes more decentralized.
In total, 1 billion SCR tokens will be minted, with investors set to receive 17% of the supply, followed by 10% for the Scroll Foundation.
The remaining 63% will be reserved for future use, including the airdrops and zkEVM retro.
However, some members of the crypto community have questioned the decision to allocate such a large portion of the airdrop to Binance Launchpool users.
The exchange’s launchpool allows users to increase their airdrop allocation by staking larger amounts of Binance's BNB token to the launchpool.

In response to the criticism, one of Scroll's core contributors, known as sandyzkp on X, defended the decision, stating, "Binance is more than just a listing, it's the best channel to reach global distribution, it will open the on-ramp and off-ramp channels and help us grow to the next stage, especially in emerging markets."
It's also worth noting that several tokens released on the Binance Launchpool suffered disappointing starts in terms of trading performance.
For instance, Arkham's ARKM dropped from its debut price of 90 cents to 30 cents, while Portal's PORTAL fell from $3.60 to $2.08 three days after being issued. Ether.fi (ETHFI) also debuted at $4.13 and has since dropped to $1.44.
