Brits urged to check their pockets for rare 50p coin which is worth more than face value

Coin collectors are being urged to check their rare 2p and Benjamin Bunny 50p coins as they could be worth a small fortune.

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard has revealed the specific coins you need to be looking out for.

Rare 2p coin

Brits were recently urged to look out for a rare 2p coin which is "rising in value" – although there's a specific date you need.

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard explained how these coins were struck as 'New Pence', but you'll need the 1983 version.

He said: "These coins were supposed to be struck as 'pence', but a batch of 1983 2p coins were struck with the old 'New Pence' dies instead.

"This error was quickly discovered and corrected, but a small number of these coins did manage to escape into circulation.

"Today, these coins are highly sought-after by collectors and can be worth a lot of money.

"If you find one of these coins in your change, be sure to hold onto it as it could be worth a small fortune."

Benjamin Bunny 50p coin

The same TikTok user, who boasts 200,000 followers, recently revealed which Benjamin Bunny 50p coin you need in your collection as it's worth more than face value.

In a clip, he said: "If the Queen is upside down on your 50p coin then it's worth 'big money'."

He continued: "This 50p is an error all because the design is facing the wrong way.

"The error that's left the Queen's head in a different direction on the obverse design of the Benjamin Bunny on the reverse will have happened in the minting process.

"When you flip it round, the Queen should be facing the same way Benjamin Bunny.

"If the Queen is facing any other way, then you have found a rare rotation error worth money.

"Error coins are still legal tender so long as the original coin is still in circulation too.

"That means you can easily come across one in your change.

"Often times error coins can sell for a lot more than their face value.

"So this is definitely something you need to be looking for as it can be easily missed."

Finishing off the clip, the @CoinCollectingWizard told coin collectors the next time they come across the Benjamin Bunny 50p coin to "flip that rabbit over and check the Queen".

The video scooped hundreds of likes and numerous comments since shared.

One said: "Great video! I have one," while another admitted: "I have many error coins."

And a third chimed in: "Yes, the Queen is upside down on my one."

Do you think you have the coin? It's worth reaching out to an expert who can reveal its true worth.
