Technics has unveiled the 200-watt SC-CX700 speaker system with Spotify, Tidal, FLAC, DSD, and record player compatibility along with Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity. The company’s first premium wireless speaker system has automatic room calibration, and the speakers use harmonic distortion cancellation to improve the quality of the sound output.
The primary speaker has the usual analog and optical inputs for 3.5mm, phono, optical digital audio, and USB-C (USB-DAC) to connect digital audio players (DAPs), record players, and other audio playback equipment. The speaker has an analog subwoofer output along with an HDMI ARC digital audio output for HDTVs.
The system can play music from networked music sources over 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11ax Wi-Fi connections. The system can stream music from Amazon Music HD, Deezer, Internet Radio, Qobuz, Roon Ready(OTA), Spotify Connect, and TIDAL and supports Apple AirPlay and Google Cast. The SC-CX700 can be used as a smartphone Bluetooth speaker using the standard SBC and AAC codecs or as a vinyl record player speaker for turntables that use a moving magnet (MM) cartridge.
When connected to digital audio players with a USB-C cable, the system supports LPCM audio streams up to 24-bit 192 kHz and DSD streams up to 5.6 Mhz. Over LAN connections, the system supports WAV and AIFF streams up to 32-bit 384 kHz, FLAC and ALAC streams up to 24-bit 384 kHz, AAC and MP3 streams up to 320 kbps, and DSD streams up to 11.2 Mhz.
The amplifier section is physically divided from the speaker section to minimize noise-generating vibrations in the amplifier. After decoding the audio input, the SC-CX700 primary speaker sends a 24-bit 96 kHz PCM stream to the secondary speaker over a wireless connection or a 24-bit 192 kHz PCM stream over a wired connection.
The system leverages Technics know-how in high-end audio equipment design for superb audio performance. The speakers use Model Based Diaphragm Control (MBDC) electronics to reduce low-end harmonic distortion in real-time while the ring tweeters are optimized for rapid phase alignment of the sound. JENO (Jitter Elimination and Noise-shaping Optimization) chips in both speakers use high-precision pulse width modulation along with specialized circuitry to reduce digital amplification jitter. Other technologies like the smooth airflow bass ports used in the SC-CX700 speakers are detailed here.
The system sound output is automatically calibrated during setup using the Space Tune function based on the room and speaker placement. The Apple iOS-only Technics Audio Center app can be used to further optimize the calibration in addition to controlling the system settings and audio sources.
The primary speaker weighs 20.0 pounds (9.1 kg) and measures 7.9 x 12.3 x 10.9 inches (201 x 313 x 276 mm). The secondary speaker weighs 19.6 pounds (8.9 kg) and measures 7.9 x 12.3 x 10.7 inches (201 x 313 x 272 mm). Each speaker has a 40-watt tweeter and a 60-watt woofer.
The Technics SC-CX700 speaker system has an MSRP of $2,999.99 with a release date of December 2024 (Technics Amazon store). Readers itching to hear every nuance in their vinyl collections should consider picking up the Technics SL-100C premium class turntable (here on Amazon).
