'Best Builds' from Fallout 76 Milepost Zero update gets mixed reactions, sparks debate online

Earlier this week, Bethesda Software rolled out the Milepost Zero update for Fallout 76. The update was already experiencing a rough start as the titular location and content related to it (the Caravan system) was delayed to sometime “later this month.”

However, it was announced that the update would still go live even without the main features. Along with the now-delayed features, the update includes Legendary Crafting changes and Best Builds - the latter of which seems to have caused a stir.

Much like the name suggests, the ‘Best Builds’ feature is where players can see CAMPs from another server. Players can submit their builds to be featured, which appear on the empty spots of Appalachia. While this may seem like a great idea, players don’t seem to be happy with it.

To start with, these featured camps are reportedly taking up popular spots. As these CAMPs are picked using a self-nomination system, bare minimum CAMPs with “one floor, some turrets and two water purifiers” are also featured. “Shoulda been the other way around. Other players should nominate best builds. Not players nominating themselves,” a Reddit user commented.

In another Reddit post, a user suggested that a “dislike” button should be added to Best Builds. Interestingly, the comments on this post have been mixed. A few players think that a dislike button would give honest feedback. But a lot more people think it won’t really fix the whole Best Build situation and would discourage players from participating.

“It's a pretty seriously flawed system, but a dislike button isn't going to fix anything. It'll only dissuade more people from participating and they won't only be the people ya'll have been popping off about,” a user wrote.

Further, a lot of users only submitted their bases for Best Build to help other players complete their daily and weekly tasks. “But i still submitted it if only to help people with the challenges. Still got more likes than I expected, which was a nice surprise,” a user commented.

There’s another set of players who mentioned that “liking” a best build shouldn’t be a part of daily and weekly challenges.

However, a user pointed out that this is just Bethesda trying to get players acquainted with the new feature. “It'll get better. Bethesda has it as a daily for now, to emphasize this new feature and get everyone comfortable with it. And obviously that's ducking with the numbers. But once that's done, it'll normalize and people will actually go camp reviewing in earnest,” a user suggested.

In any case, it’d be a while before the dust settles and players get comfortable with the new features or Bethesda makes some changes to it. Hopefully, the remaining part of the update will be rolled out soon.
