Xiaomi Redmi 14C debuts as cheap Android phone with 'premium' design

After rounds of leaks, Xiaomi has made the Redmi 14C official. As a successor to last year's affordable Redmi 13C, the new phone brings a good number of changes. Among all is a new design, which the company is saying offers a "premium" outlook and feel.

More specifically, the back has a design resembling the Xiaomi 14 Ultra (available on Amazon) and some other top-end flagship phones. But unlike those pricey options, the Redmi 14C has a dual camera setup on the rear, with only one being a proper sensor. To be exact, the rear has a 50 MP primary sensor, while the secondary is an auxiliary unit.

Besides that, the smartphone has a flat frame, glass on the back, and a slim body that is 8.22 mm thick. On the front, the Redmi 14C features a 6.88-inch display with up to 120 Hz refresh rate support, 1640x720 pixels resolution, and two TÜV Rheinland certifications. The front also features a 13 MP selfie shooter, an upgrade from the 8 MP sensor found in the 13C.

As for the internals, the Redmi 14C packs the Helio G81 Ultra, a new entry-level SoC from MediaTek. It's paired with up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. Other highlights of this Android phone include a 5,160 mAh battery with 18W wired charging, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and four color options.

Xiaomi has yet to share the pricing details of the Redmi 14C, but the Redmi 13C launched at ~$160. The starting price for the newer smartphone should be close.
