Update | Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition: New name given for ultra-premium Samsung foldable leaks before allegedly limited release

The saga of Samsung's long-rumoured alternative to the Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,679.97 - 512 GB on Amazon) continues. To recap, the device was originally thought of as a cheaper version called the Galaxy Z Fold6 FE or Galaxy Z Fold6 Fan Edition. Subsequently, rumours shifted to the device being a more premium option, which has remained ever since.

With that being said, its name continues to be referred to by sources as either the Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim or Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra. According to the ever-reliable Evan Blass, neither is the final name for Samsung's next book-style foldable. Supposedly, Samsung may drop any references to being a sixth-generation model altogether.

Instead, Blass alleges that the device will be sold as the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Presumably, this would be because of its positioning as a semi-Galaxy Z Fold '6.5' with a sleeker design than the current Galaxy Z Fold6. Moreover, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is rumoured to feature different camera hardware compared to its regular counterpart, among other changes. Unfortunately, Samsung is still expected to release the device only in China and South Korea, at least initially.

Update

Evan Blass has since claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will be 10.6 mm when closed and just 4.9 mm thick when open. Also, the same leaker suggests that Samsung has equipped the device with a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch, which would surpass the existing Galaxy Z Fold6 by 0.2-inches and 0.4-inches diagonally, respectively.
