At the business booth set up by Swiss-based publisher GIANTS Software at the "gamescom 2024" venue, the latest work in the series "Farming Simulator 25" (PC / Mac / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S) I checked out the live demo. I had the opportunity to ask the publisher about the details of the game, so I would like to introduce it here.
Farming Simulator 25 Gameplay Trailer – Gamescom
It has been announced that SEGA will be in charge of publishing the consumer version in Japan and Asia, and that it will be released worldwide on November 12, 2024 (related article). It's a simulation game about running a business. Although it is a niche genre, new titles have been released every year since the first series in 2008, increasing its reputation, and the previous game "Farming Simulator 23" sold 7 million copies, and the series has sold 30 million copies in total. It has grown into a popular series to record.
It boasts a large player community, with e-sports competitions competing to transport straw bundles frequently held, and as a full-fledged farming sim that can be enjoyed by both children and adults, it is a work that attracts a lot of attention, with crowds always forming in the public areas of gamescom. .
It has already been announced that
``Rice'' has been added as a new crop in "Farming Simulator 25", including new manufacturers such as American MacDon, Case, IH, CLAAS, Fendt, John Deer, There will be over 400 large agricultural machines and attachments from approximately 150 manufacturers, including KRONE, New Holland, Valtra, and Japanese companies such as Kubota and Iseki.
The proprietary game engine has also been upgraded, and major technical updates have been made, including dynamic shadows, fog, paint shaders, water surface simulation, and an all-new ground rendering system.
Regarding "Farming Simulator 25," I was able to talk to Mr. Wolfgang Ebert, PR & Marketing Manager of GIANTS Software, and I will summarize the new information below.
■The new crop, ``rice,'' can be cultivated in both paddy fields and dry fields. In addition to rice, it is now possible to harvest
``spinach''
, and including the existing soybeans, corn, wheat, etc., the harvest amount
to 25 types . Regarding rice harvesting, currently it is not possible to extract the straw from the harvested ears of rice, but this may be possible through the licensing of agricultural machinery in the future.
■Cultivation in a greenhouse is now possible. In addition to tomatoes, you can also grow rice seedlings.
■North America's "Riverbend Springs" , and three maps for Europe and East Asia, although details have not yet been determined.
■New agricultural machinery includes Iseki's combine harvester "Iseki Japan 6130" which is widely used in the Asian region, Fendt's tractor "512 VARIO" suitable for transporting rice seedlings , and spinach cutting. Oxbo's harvester "MKB-4TR" , Agro Masz's "AQUILA DRIVE 400" which is a grain seeding machine , Novag's "T ForcePlus 950" which uses a drill for planting, and New Featuring Holland's front wheel drive combine "T7.230" and more.
■A new "GPS guidance system" has been introduced, allowing for clean cultivation and harvesting even on curved land.
■New livestock are water buffalo and goat.
■Livestock grows in three stages from infancy to maturity. It's cute to see the calves running around.
■Implemented "Terrain Change" as a new graphics function. Ruts are created when heavy agricultural machinery is driven over farmland or dirt roads. It is also possible to level undulating land, and when it rains, tires and vehicle bodies get muddy.
■As a new weather graphic, we express the “morning mist” that is typical of farmland. Although the weather does not change dynamically, it is said that fog tends to form near water and conditions tend to rain.
■New weather effects include “tornado” and “hail”, which randomly damage crops. Tornadoes can cause damage to trees, but they do not destroy houses, vehicles, or greenhouses, and they do not involve people or livestock. Tornado and hail events can be turned on and off at will, and an icon is provided next to the weather in the top right corner of the interface.
As mentioned above, the release of "Farming Simulator 25" is scheduled for November 12th, and on the Steam store page that has been opened, it is stated that the interface and text will be available in Japanese. Since this is a simulator that specializes in large-scale agriculture that makes full use of large agricultural machinery, it is unlikely that the setting will be set in a ``small rice field in Japan,'' but the fact that you can grow rice in East Asia is a big attraction. I could feel the new possibilities and expansion of the series.
