A development team linked to The Open Network (TON) ecosystem-facing projects has announced plans to build a Layer 2 network for the TON Ecosystem using Polygon technology.
The Open Platform, a development team linked to The Open Network (TON) ecosystem-facing projects, announced plans on Tuesday, July 9 to build a Layer 2 network for the TON Ecosystem using Polygon technology.
This move is set to give the TON ecosystem greater access to decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming and more with EVM compatibility.
According to the announcement, the chain will be built with Polygon’s Chain Development Kit (CDK), a toolkit that allows projects to quickly spin off zero-knowledge (ZK)-powered Layer 2 chains and plug into the AggLayer, an interoperability solution that Polygon is developing in partnership with several leading teams in the industry to support as many virtual machines as possible.
The Open Platform did not immediately respond to a DailyCoin request for comment on when this planned chain will go live.
This development is part of a broader strategy by Polygon to aggregate several Layer 2 chains into a single network, known as the AggLayer, to provide users with seamless access to multiple blockchains.
The TON ecosystem, known for its deep Telegram integrations and tap-to-earn applications, has seen rapid growth in 2024.
TonStat data shows that monthly active users on the network have surged over 1,400% from about 222,000 on January 1 to about 3.4 million at the time of writing.
This development could enable these millions of retail users to seamlessly hop across other chains attached to the AggLayer.
The move would serve as a boon to chains already connected to the AggLayer while attracting new projects that are looking to attract the budding user ecosystem.
