On July 11, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared the iPhone 16-iPhone 19 series camera upgrade roadmap. He said that in the next few years, the iPhone will continue to use glass prism solutions and will not use plastic prisms. According to Ming-Chi Kuo's roadmap, the iPhone 16 Pro series in the second half of this year will be equipped with a quad prism camera as standard. The specifications will be consistent with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It supports 5x optical zoom and has a 12-megapixel camera.

iPhone 17, iPhone 18 and iPhone 19 series camera upgrades

iPhone 16 Pro series

  • is equipped with a quad prism camera with the same specifications as iPhone 15 Pro Max.
  • Prism camera penetration will increase from 35-40% for iPhone 15 series to 60-65% for iPhone 16 series.

iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 series

  • High-end models will be equipped with upgraded quad prism cameras:

    • CIS size changed from 1/3.1-inch 12MP to 1/2.6-inch 48MP.
  • It’s unclear if only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature the upgraded quad-prism camera.
