Zerømouse: YouTuber builds 16 g gaming mouse, and you can buy one — sort of

The world of ultralight gaming mice has really taken off recently, with even mainstream gaming peripheral makers, like Cooler Master and Logitech, joining in on the action with the $25.99 Cooler Master MM711 and $105.99 Logitech G Pro X Superlight challenging the Glorious Model O for supremacy. Optimum's new Zeromouse (stylised Zerømouse) V35 mod kit for the Razer Viper V2 Pro takes things to the next level, making the rather ordinary Razer gaming mouse into a 26 g ultralight mouse with a 3D printed open shell and cleverly placed ergonomic grip tabs.

In a video on YouTube, however, Optimum has taken the Zeromouse V35 and stripped it back even further to make a custom prototype gaming mouse that weighs in at just 16 g, including the battery from the Razer Viper V2 Pro. As a result of the redesigned shell and stripped back nature of the 16 g Zeromouse prototype, the new mouse has no scroll wheel, no side buttons, and virtually no contact surfaces aside from the tiny ergonomic grip pads on the side and the left and right click buttons.

While the 26 g Zeromouse V35 and its 16 g prototype fit roughly in the same envelope as a regular gaming mouse, they basically only seem fit for a claw grip, limiting their application to a specific subset of gamers. Despite stripping the shell of the V35 back and reducing the wall thickness to make it even lighter than the Zeromouse V34 that came before it, Optimum claims that the V35 is dramatically stiffer than its predecessor, thanks to a new crossbar.

In addition to redesigning the mouse to make it even lighter, the Zeromouse V35 relocates the battery to reduce the moment arm, which in turn supposedly has a dramatic effect on the inertia of the mouse, making it feel even lighter than it objectively is.

As with the Zeromouse V34, the V35 is available via the Zeromouse online shop for $69, and the kit includes the 3D printed nylon shell, 3M Supergrips, two different varieties of skate pads, and a black battery sticker to neaten things up. At the time of writing, though, the Zeromouse V35 is sold out.

If you plan on grabbing the Zeromouse V35, you'll need a Razer Viper V2 Pro to strip for parts, and you can get that on Amazon for $118.84 at the time of writing.
