When using php to develop websites or applications, it is inevitable that you will sometimes encounter errors. In order to find errors and fix them, when developing PHP, we can turn on the error log function to view error information. This article will introduce how to enable php error logs in Windows environment.

1. Open the php.ini file

First, find the directory where the php.ini file is stored, usually in the directory of an integrated development environment such as xampp or wamp. Search for the php.ini file in this folder and open it with a text editor.

2. Configure php.ini

In the opened php.ini file, use the search function (the general shortcut key is Ctrl F) to search for the following content:

;error_log = php_errors.log

After finding the above content, remove the preceding semicolon and modify it to:

error_log = "C:
mppphplogsphp_errors.log"

Among them, C:
mppphplogsphp_errors.log is the saving path of the error log file we set, which can be modified according to personal needs.

3. Restart the Apache server

After modifying the php.ini file, you need to shut down the Apache server and restart it for the configuration to take effect. Generally in environments such as xampp, services can be closed and started directly through the control panel.

4. Check the error log

When the website or application encounters an error, the php error log will automatically record the error information and save it in the log file we set. We only need to find the php_errors.log file and open it with a text editor to view the error information.

The error information includes the error type, the time when the error occurred, the file where the error is located, the line number where the error is located, and the error description, etc., as shown in the figure below:
