New iPhone SE is nearly as sturdy as iPhone 13 in drop tests thanks to improved glass

Apple’s new third-generation iPhone SE features “the strongest glass ever in a smartphone” on both the front and back, a change designed to make the device better withstand drops and scratches.

Allstate Protection Plans tested Apple's claims this week through a series of controlled drops and found that the third-generation "iPhone SE" does appear to be more durable than previous models and nearly as durable as the iPhone 13 as durable.

‌iPhone SE‌ survived a six-foot drop test where it was dropped face-first onto the pavement, and the device ended up with only minor wear and tear, the same as the ‌iPhone 13‌. It's worth noting that the ‌iPhone SE‌ has stronger glass, but it doesn't come with the same Ceramic Shield front glass as the ‌iPhone 13‌ models.

In the backward drop test, the ‌iPhone SE‌ cracked after being dropped from 6 feet, likely because it doesn't have the same flat aluminum siding as the ‌iPhone 13‌. The ‌iPhone SE‌ survived a 6-foot sideways drop test with only minor wear and tear on its aluminum frame, again putting it on par with the ‌iPhone 13‌.

Allstate Protection Plans also conducts a 30-minute dunk test to check the IP67 waterproof rating. It can withstand one meter of water for 30 minutes without any problem, and although there is some sound attenuation after pulling it out, it returns to normal after an hour.

Drop testing is variable and the results you ultimately see in the real world may vary, as drop damage will depend on the height of the drop, the surface the iPhone dropped to, and the angle at which the smartphone was dropped.
