Microsoft fixes broken OOBE in Windows 11 22H2 but app installation now fails

Now that the holidays are behind us, Microsoft has finally fixed several long-standing bugs and issues. Yesterday, the company temporarily resolved a problematic SQL server driver issue from November, and earlier today, the Redmond giant also announced that it had resolved an issue related to configuration packages (.ppkg files) that Caused OOBE (Out of Box Experience) issue Windows 11 22H2. The fix is released with the KB5020044 update.

However, Microsoft has since discovered another configuration-related issue that caused the app to fail to install. As a result, the company said elevated privileges may be required. It states:

Using provisioning packages on Windows 11 version 22H2 (also known as Windows 11 2022 Update) may not install all expected apps. The affected applications require elevated permissions to install (must be installed as an administrator) and may not have sufficient permissions during configuration installation. Configuration packages are .PPKG files used to help configure new devices for use on a business or school network. For more information about provisioning packages, see Windows provisioning packages.Note: Provisioning Windows devices using Windows Autopilot is not affected by this issue.

Microsoft says it is working on a permanent fix and will release it in a future update. At the same time, it provides a workaround:

Solution: Any uninstalled required applications can be installed after the configuration is completed.

The company is once again reminding affected users to install the KB5020044 update. The update also fixes issues related to the game.
