HomeWeb Front-endJS TutorialDetailed explanation of innerWidth and innerHeight in JavaScript

The following editor will bring you a brief discussion of innerWidth and innerHeight of JavaScript. The editor thinks it’s pretty good, so I’ll share it with you now and give it as a reference. Let’s follow the editor to take a look.

innerWidth and innerHeight properties

Description: The read-only property of the window object declares the document of the window The height and width of the display area, measured in pixels (px). (Note: The width and height here do not include the height of the menu bar, toolbar, scroll bar, etc.)

The following will verify these two properties:

Screen resolution is: 1920x1080 Browser: QQ browser (kernel is Chrome) The code is as follows:

var width=window.innerWidth,height=window.innerHeight; //define width respectively and height receive the height and width of the window

alert(width); //The width of the window is 1920px

##alert(height); //The height of the window is 950px

The innerWidth perfectly obtains the screen width of 1920 because there are no obstructions on both sides of the browser, while the innerHeight is squeezed out by 130px because there is a toolbar on the browser and a taskbar on the display screen

This time the blogger killed the taskbar (actually hidden) and the tabs in the toolbar and pressed F12 and added developer options to test again:

/*————————干掉任务栏后————————*/
  var width=window.innerWidth,height=window.innerHeight;
  alert(width);  //宽度没有变化,还是1920px
  alert(height);   //而窗口的高度990px,表明任务栏占40px(任务栏的默认高度) 导致没有获取到全部高度

  /*————————又干掉标签页后,并加上开发者选项后————————*/
  var width=window.innerWidth,height=window.innerHeight;

Conclusion:It means that innerHeight and innerWidth do only calculate the display window pixels. If there are no external factors such as menu bar, toolbar and so on to squeeze it, it will automatically extend, and If there is, just press the display form

After testing the external factors, let’s test the internal factors scroll bar

<html>
  <head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

  <title>测试innerHeight属性</title>

  </head>

  <body>
  <p style="width:500px;height:1300px;background-color:red;"></p>

  <script>
    window.onload=function(){
     /*————————p超出长度,带着滚动条后————————*/
     var width=window.innerWidth,height=window.innerHeight;
      alert(width);  //窗口的宽度 1920px
      alert(height);   //窗口的高度 950px
   }
   </script>
  </body>

   </html>

Conclusion: It means that the internal scroll bar has no effect on innerWidth. Even if it exists, it has no effect on width. It is still 1920px

Final conclusion: innerHeight and innerWidth obtain the height and width of the form. External factors such as (browser developer options, favorites) will have an impact on it, while internal factors (scroll bars) will have no impact on it

Let’s talk about IE which has the most flaws. Regarding IE compatibility issues, it can be solved like this

//兼容代码可以这样子写
var width = window.innerWidth,height = window.innerHeight;

if (typeof width != &#39;number&#39;) {  //如果类型不为number,表示该浏览器不支持innerWidth属性

 if (document.compatMode == &#39;CSS1Compat&#39;) {   //CSS1Compat:判断是否为标准兼容模式。

  width = document.documentElement.clientWidth;

  height = document.docuementElement.clientHeight;

 } else { //不是标准模式,则有可能是IE6或及其以下版本(早期的浏览器对css进行解析时,并未遵守W3C标准)

  width = document.body.clientWidth;   //网页可见区域宽

  height = document.body.clientHeight;   //网页可见区域高
}
  alert(width);
  alert(height);

Python vs. JavaScript: The Learning Curve and Ease of UsePython vs. JavaScript: The Learning Curve and Ease of UseApr 16, 2025 am 12:12 AM

Python is more suitable for beginners, with a smooth learning curve and concise syntax; JavaScript is suitable for front-end development, with a steep learning curve and flexible syntax. 1. Python syntax is intuitive and suitable for data science and back-end development. 2. JavaScript is flexible and widely used in front-end and server-side programming.

Python vs. JavaScript: Community, Libraries, and ResourcesPython vs. JavaScript: Community, Libraries, and ResourcesApr 15, 2025 am 12:16 AM

Python and JavaScript have their own advantages and disadvantages in terms of community, libraries and resources. 1) The Python community is friendly and suitable for beginners, but the front-end development resources are not as rich as JavaScript. 2) Python is powerful in data science and machine learning libraries, while JavaScript is better in front-end development libraries and frameworks. 3) Both have rich learning resources, but Python is suitable for starting with official documents, while JavaScript is better with MDNWebDocs. The choice should be based on project needs and personal interests.

From C/C to JavaScript: How It All WorksFrom C/C to JavaScript: How It All WorksApr 14, 2025 am 12:05 AM

The shift from C/C to JavaScript requires adapting to dynamic typing, garbage collection and asynchronous programming. 1) C/C is a statically typed language that requires manual memory management, while JavaScript is dynamically typed and garbage collection is automatically processed. 2) C/C needs to be compiled into machine code, while JavaScript is an interpreted language. 3) JavaScript introduces concepts such as closures, prototype chains and Promise, which enhances flexibility and asynchronous programming capabilities.

JavaScript Engines: Comparing ImplementationsJavaScript Engines: Comparing ImplementationsApr 13, 2025 am 12:05 AM

Different JavaScript engines have different effects when parsing and executing JavaScript code, because the implementation principles and optimization strategies of each engine differ. 1. Lexical analysis: convert source code into lexical unit. 2. Grammar analysis: Generate an abstract syntax tree. 3. Optimization and compilation: Generate machine code through the JIT compiler. 4. Execute: Run the machine code. V8 engine optimizes through instant compilation and hidden class, SpiderMonkey uses a type inference system, resulting in different performance performance on the same code.

Beyond the Browser: JavaScript in the Real WorldBeyond the Browser: JavaScript in the Real WorldApr 12, 2025 am 12:06 AM

JavaScript's applications in the real world include server-side programming, mobile application development and Internet of Things control: 1. Server-side programming is realized through Node.js, suitable for high concurrent request processing. 2. Mobile application development is carried out through ReactNative and supports cross-platform deployment. 3. Used for IoT device control through Johnny-Five library, suitable for hardware interaction.

JavaScript: Exploring the Versatility of a Web LanguageJavaScript: Exploring the Versatility of a Web LanguageApr 11, 2025 am 12:01 AM

JavaScript is the core language of modern web development and is widely used for its diversity and flexibility. 1) Front-end development: build dynamic web pages and single-page applications through DOM operations and modern frameworks (such as React, Vue.js, Angular). 2) Server-side development: Node.js uses a non-blocking I/O model to handle high concurrency and real-time applications. 3) Mobile and desktop application development: cross-platform development is realized through ReactNative and Electron to improve development efficiency.
