Rare PlayStation Controller sold for $35,000 at an auction

A Sony PlayStation controller has been sold for a whopping $35,000, but this isn't just any controller. The controller in question is a rare one from a PlayStation console that was never sold. Apparently, before Sony released the first PlayStation, it had originally partnered with Nintendo to develop a console. Sony supplied Nintendo with parts for its consoles such as the Super Famicom, so it made sense that it worked with Nintendo on the console.

This console, which was a version of the Super NES with a CD-ROM drive, was called the PlayStation. However, a day after the console was shown off at CES in June 1991, Nintendo announced it was parting ways with Sony as both companies couldn't agree on how revenue would be shared.

That console was never released, but there were reportedly units already produced. Most were rumored to have been destroyed but apparently not all. Earlier this year, one of the remaining ones in existence was sold for $360,000. This controller could also be from one of the surviving units.

As seen from the image, the controller is just like a SNES controller with colored ABXY buttons. However, instead of a SNES logo, there's a Sony and PlayStation logo on the controller. While most people probably can't afford to send $35,000 on a controller, they can probably pick up 8BitDo's SN30 Pro Bluetooth Controller for $45 on Amazon.
