Microsoft shows Bing ads disguised as AI search results in Edge browser

When The Verge asked Microsoft’s director of product marketing, Jason Fischel, about the ads that were clearly posing as AI chat search results, he initially had this response:

We often experiment with new features, user experiences, and behaviors to test, learn, and improve the experience we provide our customers. These tests are often short-lived and are not necessarily representative of what will be final or widely available to customers.

Within minutes of The Verge reporting the story, Fischel sent another response stating that Microsoft had removed the ad, saying: "This experience is no longer in testing."

While this specific interaction with Bing Search may have stopped this time, it does show that Microsoft continues to try to promote Bing Search in various seemingly unscrupulous ways, making it seem like the company is eager to promote Bing Search.

It's unclear whether Microsoft has learned its lesson or will try again to create ads for its products by any means possible.
