Google Search officially retires cache link
Google has officially taken down the cache link from its Search results snippets last week, and the tech giant confirmed that the cache feature will be entirely phased out in the near future. Danny Sullivan, Google’s Search Liaison, stated that the company has “decided to retire it,” and already removed the cache link from search result pages, with complete removal on the horizon.
Cache link gone. Around January 25th, I covered for Search Engine Roundtable that the cache link had vanished from the search snippet. As shown in the image below, the cache link is now entirely absent:
Cache operator still functional… for now. However, the cache operator remains active—at least temporarily. You can still use [cache:domain.com], for instance, by searching [//m.sbmmt.com/link/7349029dfd97a1861bdbcc913734aacf] to access cached versions of web pages like this one.
Cache operator to be retired soon. According to Sullivan, the cache operator will also eventually stop working. He noted, “You’re going to see cache: go away in the near future, too.”
Noarchive tags still honored. Website owners can continue using noarchive tags as they are still respected by Google. Sullivan clarified, “But wait, I hear you ask, what about noarchive? We’ll still respect that; no need to mess with it. Plus, others beyond us use it.”
Alternative: Wayback Machine. Sullivan expressed hope that Google might begin linking to the Wayback Machine within About This Result, replacing the former cache link. “Personally, I hope that maybe we’ll add links to @internetarchive from where we had the cache link before, within About This Result. It’s such an amazing resource. For the information literacy goal of About The Result, I think it would also be a nice fit — allowing people to easily see how a page changed over time. No promises. We have to talk to them, see how it all might go — involves people well beyond me. But I think it would be nice all around,” he added.
Why this matters. Although the cache wasn’t ideal for troubleshooting SEO problems, it became a widely used tool among SEO professionals and general users alike. Now that Google has chosen to eliminate it, alternatives will need to be adopted.
The Wayback Machine offers a strong alternative for viewing past versions of URLs—and it's completely free to use.

The core elements of On-pageSEO optimization include title tags, content quality, URL structure and meta description. The title tag should be concise and contains keywords, controlled within 60 characters, and ensure uniqueness; the content should be expanded around the user's intention, naturally integrate keywords and cover related sub-topics; the URL should be short and clear, including the main keywords; although the meta description does not directly affect the ranking, it should attract clicks, maintain 150-160 characters and include keywords.

The core of On-pageSEO is to improve search rankings and attract traffic by optimizing web content and elements. 1. Content optimization should be user-centric, naturally integrate keywords, use clear subtitles (H2/H3) to separate the content, and cover related terms to improve contextual understanding; 2. Title tags should be controlled within 60 characters and prefix keywords. It is recommended to use 150-160 characters and include action verbs to improve click-through rate; 3. The URL structure should be concise and descriptive to avoid meaningless characters, and lowercase letters and hyphens are recommended; 4. Internal links can enhance the authoritative delivery of the page, while image optimization requires naming the file and adding a short alt description, while compressing the image to improve loading speed.

The core of keyword research is to find words that users are searching and can rank. First, understand the user's search intention, which is divided into four categories: information type, navigation type, transaction type and business survey type; secondly, use tools such as Google KeywordPlanner, Ahrefs, Baidu Index, etc. to explore keyword opportunities, and pay attention to long-tail words with moderate search volume and low competition. Then analyze competitors' keyword strategies, find optimized keywords and adjust them in combination with their own content style; at the same time, pay attention to the value of long-tail keywords, and expand by combining common problems, product functions and usage scenarios, and search engine-related recommendations.
